Hi I have a 720n HP Pavilion Desk Top. Its starting to make a very high pitched ring type noise. It gets worse the longer it runs. I then turn it off and let sit for 1/2 hr and it gets alot better then starts agian. Ive cleaned inside realy good. fans, ect. I have replace the PS fan. The noise is so high piched its hard to even tell what area it's comming from. I was going to WD-40 the fans yet figured this could hurt mabe?? Any sugjestions?
    Thank You

    Hi

From what you describe it does sound as if one of the fans is starting to die, they tend to just start failing and make a horrible sound, at times leaving the PC on it goes but as the fan starts to fail more and more the sound stays on.

What hardware has fans and what case fans do you have inside your PC? like CPU, Graphics card etc

WD40 I wouldnt as some fans are dry working ones, would need to know what types of fans they are and that is not easy with a OEM built PC like HP, as they dont label them at times.

What you could do with all bar the CPU fan is and mainly with the case fans is to unplug them then turn on PC and hopefully this may narrow it down, do one at a time.

Its not a metallic type sound is it? check that hard drive and other hardware are secured properly as could be vibration but not if its very loud.

There are 3 fans. A case fan, a heat sink fan, and the Power Supply fan.

I thinks its a fan as well. What I just did was totaly too out the sink and case fan and deep cleaned them with a q-tip and a can of air. (not just a brush off) Power Suply fan is 2 weeks old not a spec of dust yet.

Not sure what a metallic type sound is yet I assume like a high pitched metal sound.

The VERY best way to discriribe the sound is go into a sound proff room or taly quiet room and cover your ears. You get a pitch ring. Its the same kind. Or better yet ligh t a fire-cracker and the ring you get in your ears is that of the same type pitch..

Once i puut the unit back togeather its not making the noise However, its only been 5 min...
    Thank You
