HP Pavilion dv4170ca. That's the model number of my laptop.

At the same time, there's a plate on the computer that says "HP Pavlion dv4000".

    Question:

Does this mean the dv4170 is a part of the dv4000 series? And, more specificially, will an inverter which is designed to work in the dv4000 series work in the dv4170?

...thanks to anyone who understands such things better than I.

The dv4170ca is part of the dv4000 series. I assume you are talking about a power inverter. The manufacturer of the inverter may be able to answer your question the best, but as far as I can tell, most dv4000 series power inverters claim compatibility with dv4170ca. http://www.atbatt.com/laptop-batteries/b/hp/m/pavilion-dv4170ca-ec320ua.asp lists 3 inverters that it says are compatible, just in case yours is one of them.

It's good that the 4170 is part of the 4000 series. That's helpful info, thanks.

It's my oversight. Actually, I'm referring to the display inverter which powers the backlight in the screen.

I couldn't contact the mfr, as I'm thinking of buying a pulled part from ebay
    :)
