i bought this laptop second hand. they did not give me any recovery disks or windows7 disk. it has 2009 Norton on it. i uninstalled it but i know u have to get the removal tool in order to get it off your computer completely. i went to the Norton site to download the removal tool and started to download it ,when a window poped up that said it was unable to download the removal tool. on top of all that i cant download pics on to my computer from my email. it says unable to download andi cant watch youtube videos or listen to podcasts and everytime i try to click on the webcam it does nothing, it acts like it wants to load but nothing happens. oh yeah and when i go on face book and try to play my games it startes to load and loads part of the screen but not all of it. I would like to know whats wrong with my laptop. i was told this is the best place to come to with questions.

    Thank you

    Chris

I would goto Control Panel and under User Accounts create another user account that is an administrator. Then I would logout of your current user and login with the new one you created. See if your problems still persist, because this will tell you whether or not you have a profile issue, or a Windows system issue.

If you still have the same problem, definitely goto a command prompt and type the following:

    sfc /scannow

This is called System File Checker. Should fix any messed up system files.

I use that technique whenever I get a 'give away' computer.
I make myself a new user profile, with me as Administrator and log into it and then delete the old user. That gets rid of everything in the PC pertaining to the old user.
    Good call.....

Try different sources/locations of the Norton Removal Tool. For some reason, some work, and some don't. Further, some experts suggest to even run the removal tool TWICE – and reboot after each time. And afterward, to make sure you've deleted all remnants of Norton, you can also do an Advanced Search for any files or folders containing anything Norton, and delete them. (Here's the removal tool link from MajorGeeks: Norton Removal Tool 2011.0.0.15 )

Because the Norton programs themselves keep changing, so does the Norton Removal tool. The Removal tool now is just one executable program file.
Just a few years ago it was actually three different files. One to unlock the .dll files, one to actually delete all the program files and one ( a registry script ) to remove over 1100 registry keys.

I always use the Windows UnInstaller as my first step in getting rid of Norton. It actually works most of the time and removes everything but a program folder and a few registry keys. Then I run the Norton Removal Tool and then just for grins and giggles, I run that registry script to clean Norton out of the registry.
When I get done, there is absolutely Nothing left of Norton.

McAfee is another program that can be a real bear to get rid of.
The McAfee Removal Tool ranks right up there with the Norton Removal Tool as a must-have tool for any computer tech.

Both AV programs cost way too much for the very moderate protection they offer.

    Cheers mates!
