I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows XP SP2. My computer has been running very slow for several months. I have given up listening to music on it because playback is too choppy. I run the following scans twice a week: Malwarebytes, Lavasoft Ad Aware, Winferno Registry Cleaner. Results are always "clean" with just a few cookies to report. I have Avast Anti-Virus scanner which is always running. Since my scans aren't alerting me, I assume my computer is heavy on "good" software. Can someone please help me analyze my HJT file? This is my first time creating one and uploading it. Thank you.

    HI

Very likely your PC just needs a bit of a cleanup and this guide here should help a bit, also the number of startups you have is large and a few apps could contribute to a slowdown are googles desktop search as you already have Windows Desktop search running also, plus a few other items are not needed and just use up ram and CPU cycles,

I would do a test and install StartupCPL and disable (untick the following after you have done the other steps in the guide above)

    LSBWatcher
    HP Software Update
    Google Desktop Search
    ATIPTA
    AppleSyncNotifier
    [{0228e555-4f9c-4e35-a3ec-b109a192b4c2}] Gnotifier
    QuickTime Task
    EEventManager
    FUFAXSTM
    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
    iTunesHelper
    SunJavaUpdateSched
    Microsoft Location Finder
    msnmsgr
    swg

and remove CTFMon using this neat tool HERE, unless you use the built in speach or handwriting tablet tools for alternative input on MS Office.

Then reboot and see how its running.

If you need to double check you have no malware then these are the steps we would need you to follow, followed by posting a new thread in the malware forum and attaching the logs as mentioned in the guide, with a small description of what your issue is as in slowness.
