HP pavilion XT983 lost CD

    after reinstalled XP, CD was recognized for several days then it vanished. ??

    computer management does not show the CD either under removable storage or device manager ??

    above cycle repeated several time.

    downloaded a driver Phillips CDD 4851 butr can not install it since the drive does not show up??

    all suggestions greatfully received.
