Okay my girlfriends laptop had an issue when turning the laptop on it wouldnt turn unless I remove the battery and push power then put the battery back in and push power. Also the power jack was really loose and the cord would fall out like it wasnt even held in. She has the 4 years warranty aswell as the 1 year manufacturers warranty and when she brought it into future shop she explained the issue and they sent it to hp. The power cord was damaged because of her dog, but the other issues just happened for no reason. The computer just got back and they are trying to tell her that she has to pay 300 dollars for the powerjack and cord to be repaired. Wouldnt the powerjack and labor be part of the warranty? You can honestly tell me that a powerjack and cord is worth 1/2 of the price of the entire laptop?

No, it probably isn't worth that amount, but it was not damaged due to normal wear, nor was it a factory defect, so it is not covered under the warranty.

You could try looking for a replacement cord on eBay or various electronics stores, who knows, you might get lucky...
As for the jack itself, well... if it was damaged by her dog, then there is not much you can do about it except pay for it to be repaired, if you cannot do it yourself.

im not talkin about the cord ill pay for that but a cord would be replaced meaning no labour, the jack itself probobly only needs a few drops of solder, and it stoped working for absolutely no reason, and stopped holding the cord in so it would just fall out. *the cord was damaged by the dog, not the jack

Well, you could probably manouver the cord correctly so that it stays in. If you jiggle it around, can you charge the laptop?

At one point jiggleing worked, but now it just falls out like its not connected to anything at all so manouevering it until it charges the laptop is pointless.

    Hi Master,

Seems that from your description that the power receptical in the laptop is broken. I have repaired several of those but the ideal would be a new replacement. The body of the thing is plastic and usually it breaks in half when the laptop is dropped or someone steps on the power plug. Maybe the price is so high because the shop has to replace the motherboard. Shops can't afford to repair anything except by replacing units.
My repairs, for my own use, have been glueing the broken plastic, resoldering loose mounting/connection tabs and even patching the damaged PC board. Wouldn't recommend a novice trying it.

    Good Luck, Jim

If you think its expensive, we agree, but if you have soldering skills, then it can be done
Here is one individual showing how-

Use the pause , o, then off quickly when you want to see it better, as its done at lightening speed, for the video.
