Up until today, all I did was connect my camera to my computer and a screen popped up to ask if I wanted to downloaded new photos or videos. Today nothing happens. :confused

What did I do wrong? Did I delete a program I shouldn't have? Any suggestions?

Try disconnecting the camera from the USB, rebooting the PC and then reconnect the camera once Windows had restarted.

If this doesn't work (while the camera is still connected), go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>DEVICE MANAGER and see if the camera (or any generic USB devices) have a yellow "?" or red "X" by them. On any device that has a "?" or "X" by it, click on the device and choose "Uninstall" (other geeks may argue with me about this method; however I have found it to be the most successful). Once the device has finished unstalling, Windows should show a pop-up message at the bottom of the screen stating "Found New Hardware". If it does not install automatically with a "Your device is ready for use" message, let Windows search the Internet for the correct drivers.

    Hope this helps. :)

Many thanks, Gman. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I found a troubleshooting site which advised to remove the memory card and batteries for 5 minutes and then reconnect. That didn't work either. The camera shows it's connected but that's as far as it gets. I reinstalled the driver by download from HP but it didn't sort the problem.

    Hello,
Can you change the Autoplay settings for your camera as shown here? Try changing it to something else, hit apply and then change it back to the desired option and hit apply again.

Many thanks. No camera shows on the list even though the camera says it's connected to the internet.

I tried connectin again and the little circle kept revolving as if it was doing something, but nothing happened. I downloaded Windows Essentials. Still nothing.

I no longer have USB K drive, where my camera was connected.

Private firewall warns me that items are going out from my computer to another IP address. Slowly, my computer is being destroyed and I can do nothing about it.

Can you try plugging in the camera into a different USB port?

Tried all four. Camera connects but nothing happens.

    K drive is back, somehow.

It could be an issue with the camera.

If you have access to a PC or AIO printer with a built-in card reader, try inserting the memory card directly in the card reader slot and see if it shows up.

An alternative would be to buy a USB card reader. If you go this route, check the user reviews @ NewEgg or Amazon. My pick is the Sony card reader, about $12 @ Fry's.

Years ago I had tons of problems with connecting a camera to my computer and using the camera software. A windows update broke something. All I saw was a blank white screen where previously I could view and work on the pictures. HP support tried. I even bought a CD from HP with a more up to date version of the software and it made no difference.

From that point on, I decided a card reader was a much better option than connecting a digital camera to a computer. I've had 3 digital cameras: HP, Nikon and Canon and used the same card reader for the sd cards in all the cameras. The card reader attaches by a USB port and my computers have no problem seeing the camera cards.

I can use Windows Explorer to burn the pictures to a CD for safe keeping before I start doing any tweaking. Then I fire up either IrfanViewer or Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to work on the pictures.

Maybe, with the camera not connected use USBDview (In Vista you must right-click the exe file and select Run as Administrator). It will list all your USB devices. You should see the camera listed even though it isn't attached; right-click the listing and select uninstall.

Now, connect the camera and see if it gets recognized.

There is a card reader on my PC but it shows me nothing when I insert the card. K USB has disappeared again.

I am not in charge of this computer.

I tried and the PC tried to read the card but nothing happened except a fast blink. K drive has gone again.

    Extraordinaire you certainly are.

I downloaded the program. I uninstalled and checked the list again. This time the camera shows as connected. I tried to link with K drive but, although it shows as conncted to the PC, nothing is happening and I still can't upload new photos and videos.

Just an update. PC fried. Could be because of one of two downloads I got from MG. One as CAT the other was free Ausilogics Registry fixer. Now Windows won't open for me. Using a library computer right now.

Okay, PC up and running again.

Still can't get camera to upload new photos and videos. Help appreciated.

    Okay, problem solved.

Method two: Transfer images without using the HP Photosmart software

If you do not, or cannot, install HP Photosmart Software on your computer, you can still transfer images from the camera to the computer using the Windows Photo Gallery in Windows Vista.

Turn off the camera, connect the camera and computer using the USB cable that came with your camera, then turn on the camera.

I am going "duh!" Even though I have the software installed, something was stopping the photos from uploading as normal. This solved it and the photos and video are now on my computer.

Thought I'd pass this on as it might help somebody.

Thank you for all your help.
