HP printer needs to reboot between print jobs

I'm using an HP 1006 laserjet with an HP PC running Win8 w/16GB RAM. Yesterday, I noticed that when I print documents, the first will print but the second one was stuck in the que. I turned the printer off, and turned it back on, and the document printed. But the next document in line was stuck until I did the same thing again. I also tried stopping and restarting the print spooler, but the same thing happened - it would print one doc and the next would be stuck until I restart the print spooler again or turn off the printer and turn it back on.

Any idea why this is happening, or how I can get it to stop and go back to normal printing? I print a lot of documents, invoices and shipping labels for my home based business, and I can't afford to keep turning this thing on and off every time.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Have you checked HP's support site to see if updated drivers and/or firmware are available for the printer?

I have, but there are no new updates for this model. It's a slightly older model, and I think HP has let it die.

In fact, technically speaking - this printer model does not have a driver for Win8. I was able to use the driver for Win7 and I haven't had any problems until now. I think it's something with the PC, and not the printer tho - when I hook the printer to my laptop, it prints just fine. The laptop is running Win7, FWIW.

Try clearing your Cache....Tools>options>Advanced>Network>Offline Storage (Cache) > Clear Now

Not sure what good that would do, but I tried it... and it didn't help. Thanks tho!

Greetings, starwarsgeek, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Just a couple of obvious questions for background:

    1. Have you tried different USB ports (assuming the printer is connected via USB)?

    2. Is there some event (software installation, Windows Update, etc.) that might be responsible for the symptoms?

    3. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the printer?

For info: does this page point to your printer model? If so there may be basic plug-and-play Windows 8 and 8.1 drivers available.
