HP Printer slows computer

Greetings. Y'all helped me a bunch with spyware problems so I'm back with printer problems. See what happens when you're good?

I have an HP Deskjet 670C inkjet printer that is very slow; probably 1 ppm in draft and when it's running it slows up or completely stops any other applications.

Is there any way to limit the amount of memory it uses? I'm assuming that's the problem. I had it on a Pentium 2 90 with 64 k of ram and it ran at the same speed it's running now. When it was brand new it would print about 5 ppm and I don't remember it ever hanging up my computer.

I'm running XP Home on a Pentium 4 2.6 with a gig of ram. I think. I'm pretty much a computer illiterate so use litle words and type slowly.

Did you try reinstalling the drivers?

 

I went to the HP site and reinstalled the Windows driver as they recommended. It did seem to speed up the printing. The "Properties" say 4 ppm. and that may be close. Quite a lot better!

I checked the device manager and when it was printing a three page doc in Excel it was using about 89%.

Other programs were running quicker while it was printing but it still hangs for a while if I ask the computer to go to My Documents and display a picture.

If this is the best I can get I'll be satisfied. It's much better but if I can improve it...

I went through that last document at HP and I seem to be ok. The printer is probably printing at it's best but I still get the rest of the computer slowing down considerably when I'm printing.
