HP printer & works suite 99 out of memory error

I purchased a new HP Aio printer desk jet 4400. Since that time I have not been able to print and sometimes even edit anything in MS works if the printer has been turned on that day. I get the error message "out of memory". I did not have this problem with my other printers. Since I keep data in ms works, customers billing etc I am in a world of hurt. i have contacted HP and spent hours trying to correct this. Absolutely no help. MS no longer helps because my program is to old (MS Suite 99). I cannot afford to buy a new word program or replace my new printer. My printer works fine in all other programs with no error messages.
