    Hello guys,

So my laptop is stuck on the hp logo after I was updating to windows 10 (build 1803) from (build 1204). The computer was restarting normally during the update installation, up until it reached 75%, that's when it went off, and showed a message : "Restoring older version", restarted again, and since then it has been stuck on the HP logo.

Hot keys, to access the BIOS won't work, as i think the keyboard becomes unresponsive 2 or 3 seconds after clicking on the power button. Speaking of the power button, i tried holding it for a few seconds, but still no results.

It's still pretty new, so i don't think that there's any chance this is a hardware failure, especially that it was working fine right before starting the update.

Below are the screen it gets stuck on, and a video of the startup :

    These are the specs :

    - HP ProBook G4 450

    - Windows 10 Pro 64

    - Intel Core i7-7500U , Intel HD Graphics 620, Nvidia Geforce 930mx

    - 8GB RAM DDR4

Any help would be very much appreciated ! :)

    A few options to consider...
    • If the PC is still under manufacturer warranty and have your original sales receipt showing date of purchase, HP may treat it as an in-warranty repair issue. Based on my experience as a tech, it's a reasonable possibility the problem is being caused by a failing hard drive. PC hardware can fail no matter how old (or new) it is.
    • If you have an extended warranty (or paid for it using a credit card that automatically adds an extra year of protection), contact the warranty company or your credit card company. If it turns out to be a failed hard drive the repair should be covered.
    • If you have files on the PC you haven't backed up, be aware warranty service will not attempt to save or return your files! If you have things you can't afford to lose you will need to carefully remove the hard drive, hook it to a working PC with a USB adapter, find the "user" directory and transfer your stuff to a separate USB drive. The HP service manual for your model can be downloaded at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05270979. If you have no experience repairing PCs or don't feel comfortable doing it, it's best to get help from someone who is experienced - either a qualified friend or a reputable PC shop. If a mistake or accident happens it will void your warranty and, at worst, trash the PC.
    • If out of warranty, just replace the hard drive (yes, I know there are other things like rebuilding the MBR and long DSTs. - many of which miss hardware problems or do, at best, a temporary fix). A quality standard 1TB notebook drive (such as WD Blue) runs about $60. Personally I'd get a 500GB or 1TB Samsung EVO 860. It will dramatically speed up your PC and is more durable than a standard rotational hard drive.
    Hope this helps.

Can you tap F2 or something of a kind during power-on, to bring up a boot menu?

Will she boot in 'safe-mode' from this startup menu?

If so, you may be able to 'roll-back' the windows updates from safe-mode?

Try booting to BIOS tapping f10 continuously during power-on (I think its f10 or delete key on the HP's)

I have a some HPs here, and I have noticed they stick sometimes on the BIOS/manufacturer's screen like yours. This seems to happen mostly on reboots or after some trauma. I got super worried once, but waiting four or five minutes resolved the issue and has worked ever since for me whenever it happens. Good luck.
