According to the specs for this it is 110/220 volt so all you need is the cable.

I just re-read the specs and you are right it does say external adapter but not the operating voltage, if it is as you say 24 volt a voltage reducer should do the trick as long as it has the wattage to cope.

As long as you get the polarity right i see no problem.
if the adapter is not strong enough you will soon see, the performance will very slow.

Great..Hopefully im going to a bigger town on friday that has 24VDC adaptors....The only adaptors i can get here are 12 v's.....Is it possible to multipl the voltage to 24v..Then i dont need to go and buy a 24v....Im sorry that I'm askin all these Q's....

    Any Idea?

It would not be advisable to use multiple adapters unless as you could end up with 2 broken units, they have to be wired in series and this requires a knowledge of electrical circuits.

I am sure if you went to a PC store they would be able to help you out.

No problem with all the Qs that's why MGs is here,we have members from a very wide range of technical abilities and with a little bit of patience you can find someone ready to help.

I don't know where you are so it's difficult to point you in the right direction but if you Google "24 volt power supply" in quotes as i have done you will find plenty of on line suppliers.

sach2, the problem with that setup page is those are all alternating current adapters and South Africa apparently has direct current instead. Probably why the scanner did not come with an adapter.

I wonder if the scanner will work on DC rather than AC? What does the UK use? Here is a power supply: C7690-84200 (US) call HP parts ordering, C7690-84201 (Europe), C7690-84202 (UK)
for the 5300c model rather than the 5300cse model.

Hi...again ..The weekends getting closer....Ok...SA's household power is 220-240VAC and the HP adaptor also runs on AC this adaptor output is 24VDC; 0.84A; 18W Max ( I know this off by hart by now lol:-D)...I have found a company that can provide me with the adaptor(not the HP one). Its in capetown a couple a hundred KM's from me.Still ill go and get it if its worth it.It would be intresting to see if that adaprot ought to work...I don't have a credit card, so even if I could buy an adaptor over the internet..What would i do if this scanner is broken? i can't lose 180 dollars just like that lolrolleyes

U guys are great help,I just dont know if my knowledge would be of use here
I will see if I can write some tutorials.

    Its a second hand scanner

Don't think like that. Everyone has something to contribute because no one can know every different computer and software program. You might be surprised at the problems you can solve so stick around.
