Hi all... I posted this question at HPs site in their forum, but no one has replied.... I thought I'd try here since you all have always been so helpful. I'm going to paste it in, below.

    --------------------------------------

I have an hp psc 2110 all-in-one printer. I'm very happy with the printer, but have a pressing question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere.

I have 3pcs at home, one XP home box, a server 2003 box and my "uber" XP Pro box. I spend most of my time on the Pro box as that's the one I built especially for performance. Anyway, I have the three machines connected to a USB hub which allows me to switch from one to the other easily for printing. I'm having some problems on my XP Pro box. I noticed in the log files that the system is attempting to start the Pml Driver HPZ12 service repeatedly and since I don't have the printer on and the port switched over (I'm guessing this is why) it is logging about 30 attempts to connect. The only print-related services I can see in the services control panel are "PML Driver HPZ12" and the print spooler. I set the PML Driver to "manual" already.

Please help, if you can. Surprisingly, I can't find this info online and I frequent a number of great sites that have info. re: startup process and windows.

    ---------------------------------------

I can see the PC trying to startup the printer service as the icon shows up and then turns into that little broken symbol which means there was an error. It wouldn't bother me, but I can see the machine pausing to make all those attempts to see the printer and it drives me crazy. Call me old fashioned, but USB devices bug me.

    Thanks in advance.

is that HP "thing" shown as a service in your services panel? if it is, you can set the action on failed attempts to start to "Do nothing"

I forgot to mention that part... it's already set to do "no action" at first failed attempt... that's what has me so baffled!
