    Problem:
Newly built and upgraded HP Pavilion 400 series (with spec to follow) has a Belkin 54g wireless PCI card, connected to a 54g network the HP goes out onto the net. The homepage is set to google, this loads with ease... thats as far as you get! You can fully view google and all google.com sites (images, gmail etc) but cannot leave the site.. typing www.msn.com into the address bar loads at most the background, same with all other pages i could think of, any idea whats up?

    Machine spec:
    HP Pavilion 400 series
    384 MB RAM
AMD processor (not sure what without checking)
XP HOME (build from HP image disk set)

    The 54g side of things:
    Belkin 54g pci card
Belkin all in one DSL wireless router

It's not a problem with your wireless (I don't think since you can access google). Check by plugging directly into the router (instead of wireless) and see if you have the same issue. If so, then try bypassing the router, and see if you have the same issue. At least that way you can narrow it down to wireless link, pc or router.
Also you can try the same steps above with another browser (say Firefox). See if you have the same issue.
If it ends up being an issue with your PC/browser, you will want to check for adware, spyware, hijackers, and viruses.

the problem might be the connection itself

when you set a page as your *home* page it's the most accessed page in a day whatsoever, so IE caches it so it's always accessible ( displays it even when no link available, d@mn M$)

try *pinging* google.com from a dos prompt,

and also try plugin your computer using a cable, if cable work, then try bringing you computer closer to the access point to see if it works,

If they can view ALL of google, including GMail, images, etc, then I would think the link would be up. I understand what you mean about the cache, but all of google being cached, including gmail ..... ?
However, good point and worth trying. Also try pinging yahoo.com.
