hey what HSF would you recommend for a p4c800-e duluxe, 3.0ghz prescott alough in linux it sais my board is a p4p800  anyways i was going to go for the Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU because i want to reduse the noise and the temperature but i don't think that moster would fit onto my board my HSF atm is the retail one and its just over 3" and i think the zalman is 5" or more so what others would you recommend that are fairly silent ?

My AMD 64 was supplied with an 80mm retail one but I use a 120mm Zalman cooler, can't remember which one, but I compared the two and noticed that the 120mm kept my cpu cooler by at least 5c so using it. You'll have to read on your board what model it is and then see if the cooler supports it.

35c for a motherboard temp is fine, remember we're getting into warmer weather now. Also, remember the Pentium 4 cpus run a lot hotter than amds and can go up to 90c in some cases, and as I mentioned, this time of year will make it warmer so I wouldn't worry too much.

Watts dont mean anything when buying a psu you want strong 12v power, this is the most important number its rated in amps the psu I linked you to has 2 12v lines with 18 amps on each which is plenty, most power supplies with 500 watts dont have this much on the 12v lines, you also want one from a good manufacturer, enermax are proven good power supplies,I must have some psu buying guides somewhere,i'm tryin to find some stuff for my brother at the mo,if you type in psu buyers guide 2005 in google you should find a few things to read,I'll post the articles I like soon. :)

Good links Rikky, but you do have to consider watts when you get higher up the scale with the cpu. I'd recommend at least a 400W if you can, I only paid £30, which is about $55, for a good quiet 440W psu, with strong 12v power.

You can get a good idea of what you need at that link. It's self explanatory. ;)

I am completely happy with the PSU I have now. Although being very expensive, it's well built & supplies steady rails.
