HTC driver causes Blue Screen

I have a single driver on my machine that causes blue screens whenever I attempt to remove or reinstall it. The driver is for HTC devices. I would perfer not having to reload Windows XP because this is a work computer and it would take a lot of effort to get all my permisions and work programs working.

    The Problem:

I was recently given a new program for my job. The program installs a lot of drivers on my machine to work on different phones. During the installation it tells me what drivers it is installing and every time it get to a HTC driver the pc bluescreens (I'm running Win Xp Profesional). I tried to delete the old driver using a few different programs, but I still get a blue screen. I booted up the machine in Safe Mode. It would allow me to remove the driver without a blue screen but when I restarted the machine the driver would be back. I know it's this specific driver because anything I try to do to this one driver causes the blue screen.

Has anyone seen or heard of this before and is there a solution that doesn't envolve reloading the OS. I don't care how labor extensive it may be. Anything would be easier that trying to set up the machine again.

As long as I leave this driver alone the computer runs just fine. I haven't had any issues with deleting all the other device drivers.

    Hi,
Are you wanting this driver to install without blue screening or just wanting it off your machine ?? what HTC phone is this driver for?? as there may be a more compatible driver for your OS. Does your Firm not have an IT guy that could look at this issue for you?? sorry about all of the questions but the more inf we have the better we are equiped to find a salution.

I need to new driver to install without blue screening which may involve removing the previous driver (I'm not sure). There is no support within my company for an issue like this. Since it is my machine I am responsible for either repairing it myself or paying to have it done. It's not for a specific device. It's for all the HTC handsets. I can't skip the driver in the application set up. The application installs all the needed drivers first and then the actual program, so it never completely installs.

    Hi

Could you name the model of HTC device you have? as well as your Windows XP Service Pack version?

I have HTC devices, have two of them in a HTC HD2 and HD7 mobiles and they work fine in XP, so will need to know your device to give more detailed instruction on how to fix.

It's not for a specific device is an HTC driver that is used for all Sprint HTC devices when performing certain software diagnostics.

My system is XP Professional version 2002 service pack 3.

    Hi

Sadly you may know better then me on this, but as far as I know the drivers can be specific to a HTC device, the SHIFT drivers from HTC where what I was thinking of but they may not cover the HTC device you have, could be a HERO, EVO, Diamond, Pro2 or DROID Eris etc? while the driver maybe the same its wise to get the driver for the actual device thats linked to the SPRINT service for a device as HTC list a lot of them.

The hardware you are using if you decide to tell us what it is, may link to a clue as to the issue, but failing that I would boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if that helps, also disable your security applications to see if one of them is causing the BSOD.

Yes, a specific device will come with a single driver. I guess this would be more of a driver "package?". It has all the drivers needed for the devices from what I would guess, because this one driver will allow me to access any device for firmware and software modifications. It doesn't cover a single device.

The driver is used with a FutureDial hub and a Sprint program called SLATE it is used for.

I haven't tried uninstalling with my security applications disabled. I will try that today and update.

I have tried uninstalling in Safe Mode and although it will show that "uninstall" the program without any blue screen, the driver is back once the computer is restarted.

    Hi

What is the app called (and its version) that loads all of the drivers for the HTC range or is it the FutureDial app you mention?

If the re-install of the app without security software installed doesn't work, then also try installing the app as Admin by right click run as Administrator on the applications setup .exe file as that can sometimes help install a driver ok.

If that then fails and you still have a BSOD then follow the advice HERE and attach the minidump or BlueScreenView logs as attachments (the guide has the steps to attach a file), possibility it could be another app or driver causing the issue.

Alright I turned off my Security Applications and ran the install as Admin and still recieved BSOD. The application that uses the drivers is Slate 3.0 but the install application is listed as InstallByXML. Followed your link and got this as my text file for the BS. I did a quick Google search and it appeared that ntoskrnl.exe is a common problem but I'm not accustom to driver errors.

I just thought I would add after looking at a few fixes that other sites have suggested that I have already restored the boot.ini file recently because the computer wouldn't boot after doing a Windows Update. It was maybe two weeks ago and the problem existed prior to the restore and persists today.
