For some reference, please read this thread, it basically is about setting up a small network with a home media player and my PC. My new question is this: hub or switch or router? I currently have an old 10mbps 5port hub that works fine on my current setup with simple file/printer sharing among 3 PCs (2 towers and an occasional laptop). So, after reading the thread linked to above, what do you all think: hub? switch? router? Will my old 10m unit be OK? What's the difference between a hub and a switch and a router?
    Thanks!

    (BTW- I don't need wireless ability, so that's a non-issue)

HUB - all ports "see" and "feel" all traffic
SWITCH - more intelligent and only traffic specific to the MAC address on the port is seen. For example Port 1 on the switch can not see the traffic on Port 2 unless VLANS are created which we will not get into.
ROUTER - Routes traffic between two or more LAN segments. (ex. 192.168.1.0 and 10.0.0.0)

So, generally today....SWITCH over HUB and if you need a ROUTER get one that has a SWITCH as well. If you don't need to go to the Internet OR have more than one network then a ROUTER is not needed.

I would suggest a 100Mb switch with enough ports to support everything you want to attach.
