I recently bought a new compaq pc. (200 GB Hard Drive, AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1.5 GB of RAM, 350Watt PS). It came with integrated graphics, but last night I decided to buy an ATI Radeon X1300 (512MB) card. All of the requirements were passed, so I figured it would all work out. I hooked it up, and the computer worked fine. Before I was able to install any drivers, my foot turned off the computer by accident, and from there on when I now turn on my computer, everything runs besides the monitor. I tried my other 2 monitors as well, and I still get nothing. If I turn any of these monitors on it will just say "power saving mode" or something around that. I've also tried removing the video card, and pluging the monitor (I've tried all 3) back into the integrated, but I still ended up with the same problem. I do not have the reformating discs, and obviously I can't get into BIOS because nothing shows up on the screen. Any suggestions ?

something we do here at work that usually works... unplug the computer (while off of course) and hold the power button in for 30 sec. then plug it back in and power up.

I'm not exactly sure if that's a possible solution or a joke, but I tried it anyways because I appreciate any help I get.. Nothing happened, monitor stayed off, and when I pressed the power button, it turned off several seconds later..

Try resetting your system's bios utilitzing the jumper. It may be that the system detected your new card, disabled onboard graphics, but then things got mucked up when the install failed.

"Try resetting your system's bios utilitzing the jumper." - Can you explain to me what this means, i'm not exactly the best with computers...

i was dead serious. i work in a computer lab of around 100 computers and a couple of weeks ago we had a power outage. when it came back on, we had 5 or 6 computers that would boot but nothing would show on the monitor (even though it was on). so, we powered them down, unplugged them, held the power button in for 30 seconds, plugged them back in and turned them on and they all worked. so, definately not a joke.

Well, I wish it would have worked for me.. So you just unplugged the power supply cord or what?

There should be instructions for doing this in your motherboard manual.

If you look in this link:
    http://www.dewassoc.com/support/bios/bios_password.htm

Scroll down to where it says "Motherboard Jumpers" It gives a brief rundown. The rest of the page has NOTHING to do with your issue, so don't go mucking around with that other stuff unnecessarily. I only link it because it has a nice description of how to clear the bios using the jumper.

Ayanla, that was a waste of time. I did exactly what the manual said, removing the pins from their default spots and so forth (it was a pain in the neck).. but either way my problem is that the monitor will just show a black screen saying "Saving Power Mode."

If you feel troubleshooting and ruling out a bad bios setting is a waste of time, then you're entitled to your opinion. I will not further waste your time, or more importantly mine, trying to help you with this issue.

I'm not saying anything to be immature or impolite, maybe it just looked that way. I appreciate every piece and bit of help, and I more than thank you for trying to resolve this..

alright - i think you misunderstood acejones - turn off the comp, unplug it, then hold the power for 30 seconds - i think that resets bios on most dells and possibly others

No that doesn't reset the bios, the jumper trick would reset the bios, what the power thing does is release any remaining stored current on the board, odd as it sounds i have also seen this work.

Try changing the monitor cable to a different one that you know works. And also try using a different slot in your power bar or a new one entirely.
