Man...I envy you people with newer toilets. I have no shutoff valve in the bathroom, the only option is to run to the basement and turn off the water.

You can take the top off the tank and pull up the inside lever that is joined to the outside lever. Jam a screwdriver or something to hold it up. Fix problem.
