I accidentally killed Games Explorer.

I use Vista Games Explorer quite a bit, but I accidentally delete all the games. Now I can't add any more. Things I've tried:

-- Dragging and dropping icons into window (nothing happens)
-- Using Vista Games Explorer Editor (tells me there's no games in there)
-- Reinstalling a game that automatically adds itself (didn't work)
-- Looking at the registry (no idea what to do there)
-- Going to C:\Users\Aimee\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer and copying everything from a backup (still no luck).

    Any other ideas?

It's almost as though it's corrupted.

Update: Tried to remove the GameUX from registry. Didn't work, also wouldn't let me re-add it.

May have to reinstall Windows. Lovely!

    Edit: Would repair install work?

    Hi Aimee

Before re-installing try sfc /scannow and see if any corrupted files are fixed

To run sfc in Vista, type CMD into the Start Search box and when it appears in the search list right click it and choose Run As Administrator (you need to do this to run the elevated command prompt) then type sfc /scannow and hit enter (may need DVD in drive)

As you where mentioning Games folder in the lounge and its weirdness do mention anything you may have been trying like registry edits or fixes to correct the jumbled alphabetised listing of games, or anything else you may have been testing or tweaking as it maybe crucial.

Well, the SimCity thing fixed itself (turned out to be the sort order); but then the icons got a little messed up, then they got REALLY messed up.

So I used Vista Games Explorer Editor to "repair" the VGE; but now I can't add anything at all.

Did you try going to Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features>Turn Windows Features on or off>toggle Games

I've tried that several times (after posting the OP) nothing happened.

    Hi

Give system restore a go to a date you know the games list was working ok, may need to re-install any apps or updates added after the restore point, but better than a full re-install.

System Restore won't open. I tried opening it again and it says it's already open, but I can't find it in the processes list.

    Edit: Came up. Awful slow!

It worked! (Except that the icons are messed up again but oh well.)

New problem (odd): All the icons are messed up. For example, SimCopter goes to SimCity 2000, Horsez goes to SimTown, and Roller Coaster Tycoon goes to Horsez.

    So what now?

I've been using VGEE quite a bit, just discovered the "Delete" button so I'll just manually re-add them. (I only have a few games which automatically add themselves so I'm used to the process.)

Edit: LOL!! Accidentally added a shortcut to Games Explorer TO Games Explorer!

I broke it again doing the same thing. (I'm forgetful.) But this time I can't get to the System Restore. Any ideas without full reinstall?
