So I hope this comes out shorter versus longer, I have a Samsung Stratosphere Android. The past day or so it has been saying "SD Card Damaged" for what is surely no reason at all. The phone hasn't been dropped, gotten water in it, used incorrectly or anything like that. But anyway my pictures wont load on the phone itself. I was doing some online browsing about the problem and I guess it is a problem other people have had with their Stratosphere phones as well. But they said pretty commonly, you can just access your phone through your PC and pull your photos and stuff off, although you will still have to reformat your micro-SD card. Which is fine, I really just want the darn pictures.

So I plugged the phone to the pc via USB. I believe the pc itself is running Windows XP, it's not my pc, its one my brother-in-law built. If you guys need to know the OS I will double check it. I went through the Samsung website and installed the drivers. Now in the "Printers and Devices" page, it shows the yellow '!' next to the phone. I click on it and go over to hardware, it reads like this.

    Android Phone
    H:\
    HTC Android Phone USB Device
    HTC Android PHone USB Device
    l:\
    USB Composite Device
    USB Mass Storage Device

The "Android PHone" Part has the yellow '!' still. All of the other functions are running normally. And if I click any of them, they say the driver I've installed is the most recent one and is running normally. The "Android Phone" part says

"The Drivers for this phone are not installed (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, select "Update Driver""

*edit* I also forgot to say that in the "Android Phone Properties" page, the button to "Update Driver" will not let me click it.

So that's basically where I am. I read something about changing the install compatibility settings, but that didn't change anything. Any help is very appreciated. Or if any of you guys can figure out the SD card problems on my phone as well, also appreciated. Thank you!

However, there may be a simpler way to get the photos off of the Micro SD card. Pull the card from the phone and connect it to your computer through a card reader using an adapter. It should show up as a mass storage device which you can then open by double-clicking on My Computer and then double-clicking on the mass storage device that shows. You can then extract your pictures and any other files you want (like the backup of your contacts) to a folder on the computer and reformat the card while it's still connected to the computer. Then simply copy the photos back to the card.

    Hope this helps. :)

When your phone is connected you should see an icon on the notification bar (of the phone) for the connection, Make sure you have connect to pc as a camera or external disc selected. It might need to be switched to work properly with your version of windows. Also as this is a droid, your contacts are backed up through your gmail account and you shouldn't mess with trying to pull them off the phone. Basiculy just copy the photos you want off. Also this will show up like a drive so double check under my computer to make sure its not listed there.

I guess it depends on what version of Android you're running. I'm running Gingerbread (2.3.4) and my contacts ARE NOT backed up through my GMail account nor can they be. But then, this is another topic.
