I am so broke

And truly want to go on a vacation, figure I can drive but where could I stay cheap?

 

Well, if you're gonna drive, you can stay in your car.

 

That's going to depend a whole lot on where you are, and where you were planning on driving to.

There are youth hostels around, churches and colleges sometimes offer cheap accomodations, there's always camping if you have a tent.... Like I said, depends on where you are and where you want to go.

get a tent. camping is cheep and fun. (especially in the US) stick a pin in a map and go there. (been there................................got teeshirt.) aloha

I guess I could try a better job but teaching is my passion. I am paid in other ways... we do what we can!

 

Seriously, if you like the outdoors, look into tent camping. Absolutely the cheapest way to vacation, and can be a LOT of fun. Did a lot of that years ago.

Husband and I both teach, money? Never... put one child through college and another one will soon be there... tells us she will NEVER be poor!! I guess teaching is not for her... If we had it to do over again, it probably would not be in education... but honestly we do get our rewards!

 

It was funny, I just didnt want anyone to think I just sat on my........ well you know!

 

So don't go to Minnesota. The point of a vacation is to go somewhere nice, and for tenting, that restricts some areas, but there are many many areas that are good.

One summer we took two weeks & went from Chicago to Washington DC, staying in a tent. Plan worthwhile activities, like Kings Island in Ohio, Gettysburg, DC, and the old historical Williamsburg, pick a campsite that allows you to spend a few days in one spot, then pull up & move on. Back in those days, we were pretty busted too, but it was doable by not staying in expensive hotels/motels. Fun doesn't have to cost a fortune.

 

Now don't be cutting MInnesota and our state bird.lol

I just spent the 4th of July weekend camping by MIlle Lacs Lake in Garrison. We have a motor home (30 years old), but works great. Our kids stay in tents. We purchased the motor home 15 years ago, and have used it every summer since. We go camping alot. Always in Mn, where I live.
Yes, there are mosquitos, but we have spray and a powder we put around our campsite. Called Skeeter-Beeter.
It is relatively inexpensive. We have water, electric, and sewer. Almost as good as living at home, but no internet....:-(

Might not be much of a vacation, but there are work farms out of your area. Work days and site see nights.
