You guys saw the photo of me with my rifle...pretty remote location huh? That's where my husband is currently logging..nothing around for miles.

He called me this morning because he has had his new pick-up I just bought him stolen off the job site! It had all our tools in it, his new binoculars I just bought him for his elk hunt next month. Thankfully his loaded rifle was in his skidder with him, in case he saw a buck.

The sheriff's department have done nothing! They haven't even called him back to give him an incident number so we can get the insurance rolling on it. The location is so remote it took me over 20 minutes to help them locate it.

Just when I'd got us both sorted with decent rigs at long last.....

    I am so mad......

Wouldn't happen to be a newer rig with onstar? Did he leave the keys in it?
Will keep fingers crossed that they recover it ...and without too much damage.

You gotta love a logging operation. Everyone at every level pulls together in any adversity. The truckers have found it a few fields over. It apparently seems not to be beaten up, but Randy is hitching a ride over now to give it the once over, and hope nothing got stolen from it. They obviously fancied a bit of 4x4 off-roading!

I just got off the phone from talking to the cops. They want to know how it was broken into and started, as they have a few car thefts going on in the area today, and it's a sleepy old town, not a city.

@ Tim...it is a newer rig (onstar??) and off course he didn't leave his frickin keys in it

Onstar .....basically a mobile phone that will allow emergency calls for assistance of any nature ...and a tracking device to locate the vehicle ...in case of thieft, an accident where the person is too disabled to respond (it calls home when the air bags go off) .....

Then it is a good question as to how they started it ....unless they pilaged the steering column.

LOL...you nutter @ buck got wise. It's about the size of it though since the location is so remote.

I wish I could kick back, but today is our Board Annual Meeting this evening and I am just swamped until about 8 tonight :( Really could do without this hassle, but hey ho......if it doesn't kill me it will make me stronger, right! :D

@Tim...onstar would be a waste of time.....he doesn't get reception in the remote areas he works, which is why I am handling all the calls to the cops.

Glad they found Hubbies truck Lev, sort of thought that being a remote area, that someone would have spotted it. Hope there isn't to much damage to it, other than the hassle it has caused you two. Best Wishes

Hopefully nothing of great value got stolen, great to see your truck is back in your husbands hands, but why steal it and leave it a few fields over? Sometimes auto theft can be the silliest of things, the OnStar thing is recommended, especially since you claim there are a rash of car thefts in the area.

It's his last day of logging that area, then it's over to the coast.

Glad to hear it was found...hope it's not too torn up!!

Sounds like it must have just been a couple of punks wanting to go for an off-roading joyride!!

Let us know what comes of it once you get a chance to look at it!!

Funny you should post that Mankind...they did bust one up on the job about 2-3 weeks ago. Maybe this truck incident was the hippies' revenge.....it's looking more like the truck had been pushed than driven. No broken entry etc.

Since when would a card carrying hippie push a vehicle? That's just wrong.

I'm awfully sorry to hear that Lev. I hope it was just a joyride, and that nothing was missing and no damage other than whatever they did to get it started.

Been robbed twice in Memphis (which is why I now live in Mississippi). Once my home, and once my home and my pockets at gunpoint. Losing anything major hurts, but there's no more maddening and frustrating feeling than knowing somebody did it to you on purpose.

Sorry the truck got nicked, Lev. But good that you got it back soon, and in one peice.

I had my car pinched right outside of my front door, and I was home, last year. It was locked and immobilised too.

Like you said, the cops weren’t very interested, either when it stolen, or when it was retrieved. They were more interested in me identifying myself as the owner of the vehicle, when the 12 y.o. son of a friend of mine found it about 2km away - figures. So much for 'public protectors'.

Finally home after an awfully long and horrible day.

    Today's lesson:

Ensure your husband not only puts his rig in gear and chocks it up against a fallen tree on a hill, but also applies the freaking stop brake before leaving the vehicle!!!!

Nothing stolen, car not broken into, infact still locked, with dents and scratches. I made him call the cops and insurance back and tell them what he had done. The cops busted up laughing. I guess one day when I've finished getting it all straightened out with the insurance and body shop, I might find it vaguely amusing, but right now it ain't gonna happen. I only just got done buying the freaking thing 3 months ago!

Oh! Ouch! Glad nothing was stolen, but I still feel your pain. And hubby's. Must be terribly embarrassing as well.

Sort-of did that once myself, but without the spectacular results. Older SMALL car, and handbrake obviously was no longer adequate on a hill, going backwards. Was a large slanted bank parking lot, and a good samaritan saw my car starting to creep backwards, and he got behind it and tried to stop it. Light car and gentle slope allowed him to stop it, but not permanently. The nice guy literally walked it down the slope and let it sit where the pavement flattened out. Short way back from that was a whole row of cars in another lot. Uncontrolled it likely would have pranged one of them. After that I always left my manual trannies in gear.

Heh, heh! Well, at least nothing was missing, apart from common sense, maybe :p. Not so good that it WAS a near-new truck. I think I remember you saying something about it, when you first bought it.

    AH.... ooops!

I bet hubby is in the doghouse today! but really glad it and the tools were not stolen, good tools and ones you have become comfortable, especially over the years you collect some special ones to do certian jobs were not stolen.

I still pop mine into gear when parked up, even if its not on a slope GT, dunno why must have been told something at one point and its stuck.

Oh yeah...he's in the doghouse alrighty. All his work buddies called last night - those he is on the job with and those on other jobs, to laugh about it and leave voicemails. It's a good thing I got home after dark last night so I couldn't actually see the damage. I know it should be funny, but I can't get there right now. Life's too real right now.....

I guess I just need some hugs from the big guy upstairs :)

Well,be fairly gently with hubby. I guarantee you he's already kicked himself in the butt 'til he's black & blue.

I ain't the big guy upstairs, but (((((HUGS))))) anyway.

Hey Lev, I live on the Oregon Idaho border and we have tons of logging trucks going through our rural town. It takes real guts to drive one of those, especially on Idaho's only north/south highway. Do you ever ride along with him?

No, I work too, so it just doesn't connect with my schedule.
