If what your son used to re-install Windows 7 was the OEM DVD, your Product Key should be on a sticker somewhere on the computer. If it was a Retail DVD, as TimW said it should have a Key on it or a sticker with the Key enclosed that you would place on the laptop.

It was a latitude e6400, I am probably screwed. No disk, no sticker on the computer. Right no I' m shopping online for a new one, will probably be cheaper thab buying a Win registration.

I, too, have a Latitude E6400 that came with Vista Business 32-bit. I've sine installed Win 7, 8.1 and 10 on it - all three run fine. You can purchase a Win 7 Product Key online for much less than a "new" computer. BUT, the Key has to be for the exact version of Win 7 you have installed (Starter, Home Premium, etc.).

Thank you , One byte gone, Now the question is whether this computer is worth maintaining or start fresh.

I think it's worth maintaining and even upgrading the RAM to it's max of 8 GB and investing in an SSD.

The battery can also be replaced as long as the contacts for it inside the laptop weren't damaged when you dropped the laptop.

I'm visually impaired and the screen resolution of my Latitude E6400 (1440 x 900) makes it a little hard to see but, the computer works great. It's faster in all aspects than my quad-core Inspiron.

The link I gave you was for Win7 Pro OEM.....since you already have that installed, all you need to do is use the key they will provide and not have to download the ISO file.
