Hi first time here and I am no computer expert so any help explained for a 5 year old would be much appreciated.
I have a desktop computer and my gf users her laptop and both machines can not access some websites such as ebay. I have run a scan with Malwarebytes and cc cleaner and still the problem persists. Any suggestions Many Thanks.

If both machines are having problems with the same sites then the problem must be with something they share - like your ISP's DNS servers.

Can you temporarily try these DNS addresses on just one of the machines -

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

These are the DNS servers of OpenDNS, which anyone can use as an alternative to those provided by your ISP.

I put both 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 into the address field and both did nothing, it just says at the bottom sending request.... then

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 208.67.222.222
    Suggestions:
    Go to 208.*67.*222.*222.*ipaddress.*com
    Try reloading: 208.*67.*222.*222
    Search on Google:

Control Panel > Network Connections > right click the active connection > Properties > click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > click Properties > click Use the following DNS servers and enter the two addresses. OK out.

Post two or three links to addresses you can't access. Let's see if they are valid for others.

That takes me to the Ebay.co.uk homepage. What happens when you click on it?

And is that the only link you are having a problem with? If so it's just probably a dead link. Otherwise post some others.

Oh, and btw, reset your adapter to its default automatic setting.

When i click on it, it has a blank page with sending request.... at the bottom and eventually

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.ebay.co.uk
    Try reloading: www.*ebay.*co.*uk
    Additional suggestions:
Access a cached copy of www.*ebay.*co.*uk
    Search on Google:

Could it be a problem with google chrome? Should we use a different search engine? Or could it be a problem with BT Homehub as both machines are connected to that?
Thanks Earthling for you patience and help it is very much appreciated.

Well I'm using Chrome atm too, but try it in IE8 or Firefox. And as I said b4, is this the only problem link?

This is a bit of a puzzle. You have two machines there, one XP, the other Vista or 7, and neither can access Ebay while I can (also in UK, TalkTalk). That points straight at your ISP's DNS server being at fault, but we have tried alternative DNS servers without success.

About the only thing left is your router, so can you switch it off, leave it for 15 seconds, reboot it and try again please?

All working now turned off router and left for 5 mins.
Thanks again for your help and your patience.

ok, i'm having the EXACT same problem. 4 computers in my house(2 wired into LAN and 2 wireless laptops). using Verizon DSL. i am using BOTH windows 7 and windows XP. i have troubleshot over the phone for hours. i've deleted cookies, history, settings. i'm using both google chrome AND internet explorer. i have had a technician come to my house and they told me, "it's not our problem it's ebay's fault."

so i called ebay, troubleshot w/ them, they said, "it's not our fault, there's millions of people on ebay right now, it's your internet."

here's a short list of sites i've found that i cannot connect to:
    www.half.com (owned by ebay)
    www.ebay.com
    www.paypalsucks.com
    www.pchelpforum.com
208.67.222.222 (i tried this one that you recommended)

i have checked w/ friend and they are all viable, working websites. what the **** do i do?
    snipped
