It says I have a connection, but when I click on firefox it will just load the page, but it never loads up. And my AIM will not connect, and when i run AVG nothing comes up. Can some one please help me with my problem

    More info would be helpful.
Did this just start after having a good connection?
How are you connected - wired to modem; wired to router and modem; wireless to your own access point or router?
What operating system - XP or Vista and what service pack?
Any new software or hardware added right before the connection was lost?
Info on comp - desktop or laptop; make and madel number.
Have you tried cleaning out your temp files?
Does the same thing happen if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking? (Tap F8 at boot up and choose the mode.)
Have you tried disabling any firewalls for a short time to see if that is blocking?

the connection i have is perfect, and I don't believe it's the router, because my father's laptop can access the internet just fine. The Laptop is an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, that runs XP. I've tried running AVG and nothing comes up and nothing happens when I run it in safe mode. so I'm clueless about what to do

go to your start button and go to run, once there type cmd. a command prompt will open in the command window type "netsh winsock reset catalog" without the quotation marks. restart your system and try to connect. let us know what happens.
This command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. This can be useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network connectivity.

go to the run command and type cmd. once the command prompt opens type "ipconfig" without the quotation marks post the results here.
