I have an external HDD that once in awhile gets folders created for me that have a ton of weird characters in them. &┴╫ÿeçΩ1.¬ and stuff like that. I hit delete and it tells me it

"Cannot delete file: Cannot read from source file or disk."

I have tried removing it manually on the command prompt with rmdir, both in and out of safe mode, removing it with Maleware, and using Unlocker. Unlocker tells me either that it has been successfully deleted (not true) or that it will remove it on the next reboot (not doing it).

    Any ideas welcome.

    Thank you

    1. Try scanning the drive using a few other programs: Spybot Search and Destroy, Microsoft Security Essentials, NOD32 etc.

    2. Use a Security focused LiveCD like Backtrack to access and scan the contents of your External HDD.
