I cannot open my own encryted file. PLEASE HELP!

I have recently moved all of my data to my second hard drive, reformatted my C drive and reinstalled Window XP Pro.

I have an Excel file that I encrypted with windows EFS before I reformatted my C drive and reinstalled windows. The problem is that I can no longer open the file now! The encryption has locked me out!

I desperately need to open this file since it contains a record of all my important user names, passwords and other critical personal information. I am REALLY STUCK until I can open this file again!

Can someone PLEASE help me get back into this file!! I have tried unencrypting the file but it won’t let me do that either. I have searched Microsoft’s support site and the problem seems to be that I did not register my computer with the same name when I reinstalled windows and now I’m locked out of all files that I had previously encrypted.

I have tried granting myself access to the file by going to the file properties, then Advanced, then Details and adding myself as a user with temporary access as I had read about on the Microsoft support site, but that doesn’t work either. It just says “Error in adding new user. Error code 5.
