I have a new computer with windows xp. Never had a problem watching dvds on old computer but now I cannot. I started with wmp11, and found out I didn't have a decoder installed. Took the suggestion to roll back to previous player, which is wmp9. I still cannot view any dvds.

    I haven't a clue what to do next. :cry:confused

By default, XP was never released with a DVD codec or a choice of bitrates for MP3 ripping, though they were all issued with the Beta versions. IIRC, it was a simple Registry modification that was all that was needed to enable each of them to work.

I usually install VLC player, it adds codecs and plays DVDs.

I will try your suggestion, as the one from mimon didn't work for me. Wondering if I shud uninstall the codec pack that didn't work for me, before I install the VLC player?

I will wait for your suggestion.
    Thanks

    I agree :highfive
Over time I have tried various codec packs and I think all the media players, I always come back to VLC
It's number one reputation is well deserved.
My advice is to install VLC and enjoy it :cool

One of those codec packs should activate dvd capability in WMP11. Also, the codecs contained in other dvd aps like Cyberlink Power DVD will allow WMP11 to play the dvds. I'd follow thru on the fix and enjoy the content in either or both players.
