I recently just bought web hosting on eHost.net. Each plan comes with cPanel access. Now I'm trying to install my phpBB forums. It's a fresh install. I've contacted them many times because typing in http://mydomain.com/cpanel gives me a blank page. They seem to give me nothing but one to two sentence answers. Here's my full support ticket dialogue between me and the Support member:

I'm trying to install a phpBB forum on my site. I've uploaded all the files. Followed all the instructions, but I can't figure out what's wrong. It won't connect me to the database when I fill out the required info to install. The following are fields I think I'm filling out wrong that I need in order to get this to install properly:

    Database Type:
    Database Server Hostname / DSN:
    Your Database Name:
    Database Username:
    Database Password:
    Prefix for tables in database:

I simply don't know what part I'm filling out wrong and it doesn't give me a straight answer as to what I'm filling out wrong when I hit install. Any help as to how I would go about getting this to work would be greatly appreciated. It's kind of a priority as my entire site is forum based. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Please use fantastico as it will install phpbb really easily. Please log into your cpanel and click on fantastico then phpbb and follow the instructions.

Ok I don't have cPanel yet. Does that mean I have to buy it and upload it through my FTP? Or am I supposed to have it? I'm guessing I'm supposed to buy it.

Yes I got the welcome e-mail. I just can't access my cPanel. I thought I was clear on that. If not sorry. When I enter: http://www.wizardsworldonline.com/cpanel nothing happens. I don't get it. I have no idea what to do. Am I supposed to upload cpanel to my public_html directory? If so I have no idea how to do that considering I've gone to the cpanel website and they don't give very good instructions. I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm not getting very good instructions from anyone. This is my first time with purchased web hosting so I'm sorry if I don't quite understand.

    Hi,

Make sure you change your dns where you bought your domain. In the mean time, please review the welcome email and it will give you a link where to login then you just login in the url next to cpanel.

I've already set my DNS. That shouldn't be the problem. I am already able to access my site through my domain http://www.wizardsworldonline.com. But I cannot access my cPanel by adding /cpanel to the end. I've read the welcome email, it's not very descriptive, but having already dealt with DNS switching I was able to figure it out. Are you sure I actually have a cpanel? Wouldn't it appear in my public_html when I access it through my FTP program?

    Hi,

Yes, everyone has a cpanel and it looks like you got your site setup already. You can access your cpanel like this:

As you can see they're very little help. This is also my first time doing this. Please help me. I have an entire forum to recreate because obviously I can't transfer over my Invisionfree forums.

Funny, I get a cPanel login dialog at http://wizardsworldonline.com:2082/

Maybe you just needed to give it time for the root servers to propagate the new domain location.

Yeah it's been propagated. I'm beginning to think I can't access it because I'm on the University Network. They block a bunch of ports, but it doesn't make sense, I've been able to access other control panels for example Invisionfree and vBulletin. I don't know why I wouldn't be able to access this one, but I think I'm going to hit the library computers really quick and see if it allows me to access there.

Welp it's confirmed. The Wireless network must block the port that allows access to the cpanel. When I went to the library their ethernet network allowed me access. This is the same problem that's keeping me from playing online games and such. It's really annoying. I think I'm going to call the network people tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind. Thanks for all the help.
