 I have money 2006 installed on two computers (in different states). I downloaded my files at one on a CD R-RW and brought them to my other computer. I can open and read them but when I go to save any changes on the to the CD it won't save. Says in a message box that I am 'not authorized, check with system administrator'?

What am I doing wrong. Please help I leave again this Sunday and need to be able to copy my files. re there settings in this computer I neeed to adjust?

    Thabnk...

Have you tried copying the files to the hard drive? Then make your changes and burn them again?

Which Windows version are you using?

This shouldnt be the case, but try it anyway.......If Win2000 or XP then try taking ownership of that file on your CDRW, quite possible as the file was created with a different profile that this is whats needed to access the file on another PC.

    XP

    Win2000

It is most likely to be an issue with the way the CDRW data was burned, did you use whats called Drag-n-Drop/Packet Writing to create that cd ( the two most notable applications for doing this are Roxio Drag to Disk and Nero InCD ), or just burn the data directly as you would do with a normal CD, if like a normal CD then the disk session will have been closed to new data or changes.... in that case your only option is Toni's above.

    Thanks for your replies,

Yes we copied it to the hard drive and then tried copying it agai, no go.

Halo...you are suggesting a solution to exactly what I think is the challenge. I will try it this weekend and let you know.

Thanks again to both of you...Steve

Sometimes, when one copies files from a cd-rom, they are copied with the "read only" attribute. Since the cdrom is only read only (even if it is a cdrw). I'd check to see if this is causing your issue. By, right clicking on the database, and selecting properties.

Typically, nt boxes (2k, xp, vista) do not have this issue, but 9x boxes do (95, 98, me).

Hi Steve, what my estemed collegue theefool is saying is that every file has sets of attributes and if that Money (.mny file type ) of yours has its Read Only attribute ticked then you cannot update its contents.

So if the Read Only Attribute is ticked untick it ( best to do this with a copy on the hard drive ) to do this Right click the file then choose Properties and it should look like the below picture, then if ticked untick Read Only > Apply
