I've just been out and bought some CD-RW discs and added 700mb worth of data to one of them. I then copied this data from the disc onto another PC. When putting the disc back into my original PC and then attempting to delete the data (so that I could add more data to be transferred) it says:

"Files on this CD are Read Only - You can still copy new files to this writable CD, which will replace files already on the disc"

So I got around 698mb worth of data and tried burning it to the CD but it says:

"The disc in the drive is not a writable CD or it is full".

Well yeah it's full because it has my 700mb worth of data from the previous burn but the message I got above says that I can copy new files to the CD which will replace the files already on the disc... I'm pretty confused and could do with some help, thanks.

You will need to choose Erase Disc from your CD burning software, which will blank the discs for use again, most burning applications add a right click context menu option to your CDRW drives icon, pop in a CDRW thats to be deleted into your drive and right click your CD drives icon and choose Erase.

What burning software are you using?

Only way you get to burn and delete data to a CDRW is to have used Packet Writing UDF format ( Neros - InCD or Roxio's Drag to Disc ) and formatted a CDRW first, you cannot just delete data on a CDRW like you would a HD or USB Pen if its been burned using disk at once.

Right, sorry for the language but HOW THE HELL DO I USE CD-RW DISCS??!!

I'm getting really agitated with it now as I've been trying for 3 days to find a way of storing my music onto another PC and now that I've finally bought some CD-RW discs I don't know how to use them.

All I need to do is put 700mb of music at a time onto the disc, then transfer that music to another PC, wipe the disc clean and start over until I've moved all 8gb of my music to the other PC but I don't know how to do it.

    My spacing and emphasis.

A workaround would be to transfer your stuff to a USB pen drive, (512megs, 1 gig or 2 gig pen drive /s) and copy them across that way, until you figure out why CDRW's are not working for you.

What software are you using to burn with?

Using CDRWs you can burn the data to CDRW as you would a normal CD, once transfered the data, then choose from your CD Burning softwares menu or right click the CD drive in My Computer and choose ERASE ( both Roxio and Nero have this option ) if your software doesnt have right click erase for the My Computer CD drive icon then look in the Burning Softwares menus.

Once Erased you can then burn again to that CDRW.

Post what software your using and if I have it I maybe able to type up a step by step for you?
