I can't get into the Christmas spirit for very long this season

A few weeks ago close friend had a huge tumor removed and is slowly recovering. Was horrible experience and won't be over for a long time to come. A few days ago a neighbor down the street slits his wifes throat in their backyard, he has alzhiemers(sp?) and I guess he completely lost his marbles for a bit. She was in her early 80's, very nice woman. Sad to know that she's gone now.

I have another friend who is trying to take care of a close friend in her last days on this earth with cancer. Doctors have given her two weeks max. It's tearing her up so bad its affecting her homelife.

Only momentary lapse from this crap I have had this season was last night. Every year, the local power company puts santa on a lit up trailer behind a fire truck, and drives thru all the neighborhoods so the kids can see him. Its a hoot. Both my boys get so excited. Watching the excitement on my 2yr olds face, with all the lights and sirens, almost made me cry.

Im telling you , this has been the hardest holiday season I have ever been through. Its really bringing me down.'

Nothing as lifealtering as your experiences. Unfortunately I'm in the middle of Finals week at college and have had little opportunity to even stop and enjoy the holiday cheer. I really hate being this stressed out

 

Not this year, but I could write a book about a lot of past years.

It ain't easy, but try to compartmentalize the problems. Thankfully, your own family seems to be doing OK. Thank God for that. While at home with them, do your best to focus on them & on what's good, instead of everyone else's problems. Try to relax and enjoy the NOW, and not what's been, or what you'll need to deal with later. It's admirable that you care about your friends and their fates, but thinking/worrying about them 24/7 not only doesn't help them, it drains you. And there's no rule that says you must be miserable just because they are.

This obviously won't be a joyous care-free season for you, but try to savor and enjoy the good that there is in it, and rest, both your mind and your body, in between dealing with the hard stuff. If you asked them, your friends would want you to.

 

Sorry to hear that, BluesMan. That sorta thing is tough to get over.

 

Well said GT! Have had some pretty bad holidays past myself. Lost my mother, brother, and brother-in-law all with in three months of each other,and my sister-in-law 6mths before that. Needless to say, the holidays that year is a blur. We all needed to help pull each other through, for the sake of the children, but yeah it really sucked.

 

Yeah, not a lot be merry about this year, either. I'll probably just be spending this yeas "Festive Season" alone. No family and no point bothering. Glad when it's over, actually.

G.T.'s right in his advice, that you probably need to focus on your family. There're the closest ones to you and can brighten up your life more than the rest of the bad stuff combined.

Worrying about others night and day just drains the self, and doesn’t do any good for the others one may care about, as G.T. said.

From my p.o.v., I wish I had your blessings, so it's all a mater of how ya look at it.

I know what you mean its tough, I lost my grandma only a few days ago and christmas wasn't christmas without her...

 

My Mom died Oct 15.
I'm not having a very happy holiday season either.

I lost my wife Oct 23, 2002, her father five months prior, my Brother - In - Law who was like a brother to my wife this April, and if things just couldn't get any better, Gizmo, my wifes companion pet went down Dec 1st...
I won't sugar coat anything, but please know I wish ALL here comfort...

I hate to be... I dunno, devil's advocate... But maybe all the suffering you see around you is not intended to drag you down and make you miserable, maybe it's to show you how very much of your own you have to be thankful for.

This Christmas will be one year since my baby brother died in my mothers arms, two weeks shy of lung development, and struggled to survive for almost and entire hour before expiring on Christmas eve. It's going to be awful, but at least we still have my mom and eachother and a whole year of things we've gained and lost and lived through.

It's very sad... But BEING sad wont change that. Being strong gives people hope, and hope makes all trials and tribulations seem to have an ending.
