I have had a lot of problems lately installing Windows Updates but finally got them to install (Ireally don't know why, they suddenly installed when I did a shutdown last night). I decided to try the Microsoft Security Essentials program so I downloaded the install package and uninstalled AVG. Well now I can't install anything...I tried MSE multiple times with suggestions from help sites but nothing worked. Then I tried to reinstall AVG and it won't install either. I get error code 0xC0070643. So now I am completely unprotected. What do I do now? Please help.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Looks like you've got some file clashing going on - I'd suggest completely uninstalling everything AVG and MSE by using the programs' specific cleaning tools (if any), and then installing only one of the programs.

    Run the removal utility.
    Try loading MSE.
Please clarify, is it only AV's or other apps/programs as well.

If you have a restore point, can you restore to before the AVG uninstall.
    Cheers..

I can't install or uninstall anything. I tried to uninstall SuperAntiSpyware and got :
    Internal error 2203
    C:\Windows\Installer\15405d.ipi, -2147287035

I get this when trying to install or uninstall. I have already tried the AVG removal tool...didn't work

Can you scan and clean with SAS? Is this only an issue with Av's and malware scanners?
Do you have Malwarebytes Anti malware. If yes can you scan?
Tried safe mode- F8 at boot?

May need to go through the Read And Run Me:

    Cheers..

Edit: How about the sys restore. What OS are you on and service pack?

I did a system restore to last evening and was able to reinstall AVG but MSE still won't install. I'm just going to leave it alone for a while...tired of messing with it! BTW...the Windows Updates that I finally got installed are gone now since the restore and they won't install either. I'm about ready to just reinstall Windows and start over. I'm so frustrated. Thanks for your suggestions.
The Scannow did not find any integrity violations.

Reboot again. What are the kb's #. Try installing one at a time. If you error out give us the numeric/alpah-numeric code. You can also hide the errant KB from the next update and go ahead with the rest. The important updates need to be installed. Is it .Net ?

    This stands unresolved :(

    Cheers.

I tried again after a reboot but neither one would install. One is Silverlight
KB2416427 and the other is .NET Framework 4 KB982670. Both gave error code 643.

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack (if applicable) are you running?

Is this a Home or Corporate Networked PC?

For .Net you could run this Cleanup tool HERE, which will remove all .Net versions then re-install .Net 4 from this link HERE

You may well need to follow post #5 from Sikvik and run the read me guide for malware and then start a new thread in the malware removal forum and attach the logs.

    Hi

Try this as it may hold a clue as to why your updates are not installing ok.

First run this AppRemover to get rid of all your Antivirus applications as it seems you may have some conflicts and residual files that could hamper installations of other apps/

Then as you have Vista run this from the Start Search box (just copy and paste the bold text and hit enter) windowsupdate.log , then once the log opens click File > Save As and save it to your Desktop, then attach as per the instructions below, if the log is very long and wont attach as it may hit the attachement limit to file size, just delete from the Notepad file all bar the last months worth of data (dates are on the references in the log) and Save As again then attach.

Just to let you know what I finally did....
I asked Microsoft for help since my problem was concerning system security and they tried to help me for free. We tried various things but nothing was working so they finally told me to do a upgrade install of Windows 7 to fix some corrupted files. I was about to do this anyway so I did the reinstall. Everything is working just fine now. I should have done this earlier and saved myself some grief. Thanks for all your suggestions
