I cant open anything besides internet explorer 64 bit, and windows afiliated items

I cant open any programs that arent windows related, for example i normally use firefox, but right now i have to use internet explorer, and also when i click on icons in my desktop, i see the loading icon by the arrow, it shows for about 2 seconds then dissapears and nothing happens, no program is loading because i dont see it's processes in the taskbar ethier, everything was working fine until i restarted my PC after updating comodo firewall, this has been happening a few times since yesterday everytime i update something, and the only way i've gotten it back to normal is when i use system retore to go back to a previous point, please help this is quite frustrating, i dont have experience with Vista 64 at alll :-o
