I keep getting this error when I try to open IE:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    The event viewer says:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2600.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2600.0, fault address 0x001b9365.

I've tried reinstalling Windows XP but it doesn't work. I will be eternally grateful for any help. Thanks!

goto start run > type sfc /scannow, and then click OK, you maybe asked to pop the XP cd in at some point.

Thanks for the reply. However, it didn't seem to work. Any other ideas? Thanks!

open up WINDOWS explorer not IE and in the address bar type

http://www.windowsupdate.com and see if you can get to windows update to update with any IE patches that are available.

close all running programs and that means IE as well.. so you may have to print these out, delete temp internet files.

goto start run and type and ok each one of these

    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Msjava.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Browseui.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll

reboot and see if its working.

also what update do you have SP1 SP2 or neither?

I downloaded service pack 1 and it seemed to fix the mshtml.dll problem, but now I'm getting the same problem but mwshelp.dll instead of mshtml.dll. Any ideas?

    Hey Guy's,

I keep coming across information that maybe CWShredder could solve some of these error messages, try it and see if it solves your problem.

    Download here, http://majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

I can't send you an e-mail, instant message or private message so I'm going to see if I can "find" you here, draw attention to myself and my mistake  and send you back to your post in spyware so you can see what chaslang and I posted. From your one reply (after something I wrote) it seemed like you might not "check back" on the thread and you need to....

So I thought you might "check back" here -- if you can use your internet explorer ;)

    Pegg,

I am so glad you are sending them to Spyware, good advice. I hope my advice to use CWShredder wasn't to aggressive, the information I came across mentioned it may help. I was hoping it would at least get IE going and my next suggestion was sending them straight to Spyware, I was aware that the mwshelp.dll is suspect and needs to be handled in the correct manner.

I just didn't want anyone to think I was just throwing stuff out there. I am sure that I still have one of the links I came across if you or anyone is interested. Hopefully, they will check back and take your advice.

    Steve
