I cant shut down!! ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

Im having a problem with my laptop OS windows Xp Home.

Basically it wont shut down hangs on the blue screen "windows is shutting down"

After viewing other threads i delted registary items using specific software and not joy.

I have to hold the power buttun for 5 secs to turn off cant be healthy.

Ive noticed a decrease in system preformance

No luck im afriad any one any ideas no hard ware or software changes up to date pc cillin MS anti spyware everyting.

Still my lapotop wont shut down!

Its really affecting system preformance.

I cant even standby or restart.

Please advise

 

This can help with certain shutdown issues.Don't know if it can help with your issue but may be worth a try.

What happens when you get into safe mode. Can you shutdown then?

What about the following:

Click Start, Run, then type in: msconfig (press enter). Now click the radial button next to ( ) Selective startup.

Uncheck the following box

[ ] Load Startup Items

Then press OK. Click YES to reboot.

When you are back into windows. Try shutting down. Do you shut down? If you do, then you have something impeding your shutdown process. If not, then there maybe something else blocking this.

 

You don't specify what Service Packs if any, you have.

A similar problem was rectified with Service Pack 1.


If you already have SP1 or 2, see if THIS helps.
