i cant turn on windows firewall on xp???

ive just noticed my firewall isnt on ,so i tried to connect it and i got this

"windows firewall cannot be connected because the associated service isnt running, do you want to turn the windows firewall internet connection service (ics) on "

when i say yes , it returns the error prompt - cannot turn the windows firewall internet connection service (ics) on "

can someone help me out?

 

Assuming you have Sp2:

Open a cmd.exe prompt.

Type

netsh

ENTER

winsock reset

ENTER

Reboot when the operation is completed.

 

ok i did that and guess what? it worked!

now what exactly did i just do? and what caused that to happen in the 1st place?

suppose i should have asked you this before i did it lol, wonder if youd told me to transfer all my cash into your bank account id have done that to? cant believe i did it before checking now lol.

It rebuilt your winsock services. It was most likely caused by spyware.
