    Hello All,

I am having a problem with my computer and have no idea what to do. Hopefully I could get some help.

The other day I rebooted my computer and it didn't startup correctly.

Bascially everything seems to be going ok and then when windows is about to open it stalls - I guess. All it shows is the windows screen. No icons are shown or does windows boot up.

I orginally thought it had something to do with the blue screen virus. But it seems to be more like a software issue.

Before this happened I had scanned for maleware. Everything came up clean.

I have tried to boot in safe mode but it won't. I get to the part where it shows safe mode on the corners and then it stops.

I've tried to reboot to a last known good configuration and that didn't work either.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at a loss. :confused

It would be helpful if you told us your OS (XP, Vista etc.)
Also do you have an install disk for your OS?

Oops I forgot to add that.

I have XP and no I don't have the disks.

    Thanks!

When you say all you get is the "Windows screen", do you have access to the Start button and taskbar or are you just seeing your desktop wallpaper?

One trick you can try to get your icons to show up, etc. (NOT a permanent fix, but will enable you to at least try to figure out what's going on and whatnot) is:

    Press CTRL+ALT+DEL
    Click on Task Manager
In Task Manager, click File, New Task (Run...)
Type "explorer" (without the quotes), and press on OK

Hopefully this will work for you. Like I said, it's not a permanent fix, but you may be able to work through your issues more easily. Best of luck!

    Hey Mc,

Thanks for the info. I actually have tried that.

When I hit Ctr/Alt/Del something does come up and I guess it's the task manager. But I can't do anything after that. I can't click on anything or type anywhere.

It's just a list of progams that are running on the computer.

    Any other suggestions?

Were you seeing a blue screen with white printing before this happened?

No I never saw a blue screen. It just happens that my wallpaper is blue and I started googling blue screen problems. That's why I thought it might be that.

Since then I have seen screenshots of what the blue screen virus looks like and I never saw that.

I forgot to mention too that my computer has never prompted an error message.

Do you know your XP serial number? If you do, you can possibly borrow an XP disk of the same kind (home or pro) and try a repair.
