I Did It!

WOW - I stood up to the BIG GUYS (Dell, Corp.) and insisted on a new Dell computer (after blue screen crash #8? in less then 4 months) and they will actually send me a new tower.

FIRST - he didn't send me to his supervisor like I asked.

THEN - I almost backed down when he said he'd have another tech. call and after that conversation they'd decide if I needed a new tower, blah, blah, and I countered with...hey, I've already spent a couple hundred hours of my time online with Dell techs, searching M$ databases (are you proud of me Adrynalyne?), talking to experts (that would be all of you guys ), and working on this computer, I'm not going to TALK about this anymore.

So I told him I had had enough and I bought a Dell because so many people told me how wonderful they were (this was before I knew about www.majorgeeks.com) and I am NOT HAPPY and then he said he'd talk to his supervisor and........5 minutes later I'm getting a new tower.

Yeah, I know, it's still a Dell. But I'm going to assume (never "assume") it was a "lemon" and that the next one will be fine and dandy.

Um...no, didn't think of that...just said "friends that were very knowledgable"...and "a Microsoft technician who analyzed mini-dumps"...to show the different errors (RAM, drivers, etc.)

IMO, what you did mention was most likely a key factor in getting you a replacement.

I can analyse minidumps now. I'm proud useful stuff... unless the error isnt a stop error and so doesnt write a dump, but still crashes the machine... grr

It's funny isn't it? To be so happy about this -- but I feel like I won a big victory because (as some of you know toooooo well) I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out what in the world was going on with this computer (and many of you have taken up a lot of your time and energy assisting me)

Well, I came to this site months ago trying (in vain) to save my old dying computer so that started my association with Major Geeks. We did all we could for that poor thing. Reformatted it all and still have it but that's why I was so excited about buying something new (and fresh and faster and better...onward and upward, eh?)

Yep, I'm glad, and my hand was shaking the whole time I was on the phone (silly me) but not my voice! "One small step for man..."

Silly me

Because I want to be a "very nice" person and I was "forced" to ruffle a few feathers and demand action and get a bit bossy about it. I know -- pretty silly. I'm sure they hear angry, nasty people all day and I didn't want to be one of "those" (and I wasn't).

 

Intel

OH - that must be me - this comes with Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Video Cards.

Meaning, they are slow? wear out? underperform? what? Can't replace them can I? (or is everything replacable, just costly?)

Always been crap as in, they die.

Hardware failure is/was common amongst them.

we had a gateway- which, aside from being overpriced, was ok....earlier this year we got an emachines- and its been great- not a single problem so far...we did upgrade the video card and somethign else (cant remember now...)
