    What Network means?

How it connects to the Internet?

    What type of connection?

    How the Network/computers are protected?

"Many of the speed up the internet connection program downloaded to my computer", might install Junk on your computer as well.

Tp repair a single computer, ay be this can Help, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

If your two computers are connected together and they see each other you are probably have then assigned with Local IPs. Since you do not have a Router, you cannot get the Internet.

    May be this can Help.

The content of the following links will provide you with a basic tutorial about Sharing Internet connection; it is short and to the point.
The first two pages were written by me ages ago. Ignore the prices, and the specific choice of hardware, stick with the principles they are still the same.
Basic Options for Internet Connection Sharing - http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=105

Hubs, routers, switches, DSL, LANs, WANs...? -

The whole thing should look like this, http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg
