I don't know where to go to ask a stupid question...

...so I'm gonna ask it here and yell at me later. If I'm looking at new computer, and I know the specs I want and stuff, I just can't remember, does DVD/CDRW + mean only a CD burner and a DVD ROM and if I don't want that I should be looking at what says just DVD-RW and no CD mentioned at all, right?

You are not stupid, dude - I can't count how many terms, designations, and acronyms I didn't (and still don't) know. If you ain't heard it, you can't know it.

Unless the drive specs state it burns DVD's, then DVD/CDRW means it is a DVD ROM, and a CD burner only. If you want to burn DVD's (and CD's for that matter) you want one that says something like what you stated - DVD-RW . . .

I've not run into a DVD burner that can't also burn CD's. I'm partial to Sony optical drives - or Lite-on, as they manufacture drives for Sony . . . or vice versa. Can't remember.

If you are in doubt - go to the manufacturers website and see if they list the functions of the drive you have your eye on.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it meant only a DVD ROM. I have an external DVD burner, but I find it rather hard to justify buying a computer in 2007/2008 that doesn't have an internal one.
