I "experienced" the Tuba

Today, I went round me mates house with my clarinet, some books of christmas carols and we played some of them.

But instead of me playing the clarinet (which I have done for a while, I'm grade 5 now) I played the tuba. It has to be one of the most strange instruments I've ever played.

For a start its a bit odd not being able to see your fingers, or well, anything else appart from the bell of the thing. And I don't know why, but it felt like the valves worked backwards some of the time

Oh well, I can play a C, G and a D F E, F# that gets me through a lot of stuff in christmas carols. And me mate being the person he is, he taught me how to play a really low note, just for larfes

Ahh, strange instruments.

Who else plays stuff here?

 

lol i played the trombone for a while, i play the flute right now
god the brass mouth pieces are hard to play on

 

i played the trumpet for a while but decided i didn't like it and quit a couple years back. but i was pretty good. and i agree, if you play brass mouth peices for a while, your lips will hurt lol.

 

Back in high school band I played sousaphone, bigger than a tuba but same idea. Kind of wraps around you. Did a parade as a favour to my Dad, and I was in front. I suddenly felt this thing tap me on the back. I turned and saw I was a trombone slide length ahead of everyone else.

 

In HS I played the trumpet, then learned the trombone
My first year of Marching band we played Elton John songs. . . .
can you just imagine what a trumpet "singing"

That Band Dir. was cool. . .I quit band after he got fired
