I recently had to format my hard drive as a last resort to get rid of a Trojan horse. Since I reinstalled Xp Professional I have had an on going problem with Internet Explorer 6. Many(but not all) of the page links that were fine before now flag up the message "error on page" and a yellow triangle with !, sometimes followed immediately by the message "done" (also with triangle/exclamation mark) at the bottom of the page. ALL of these same links work on MSN Explorer, but my preference is to use IE - please help?
p.s. I have followed all the Major Geeks threads I can find that may have a bearing on this including suggestions on repair and reinstallation (66618 & 69210). Four weeks on and this is driving me TOTALLY INSANE... please help!!
p.p.s apologies to those who may have already read this - I posted earlier today & checked it had arrived in the forum, but since then it has disappeared? - is there a Bermuda triangle section??

You can go to java.sun.com to get the Java version you need.

Also make sure you have got all updates from Microsoft update.

These certain pages won't load at all in IE - just a flicker on the screen & the error message appears in the bottom left hand corner, but if I try the same links in MSN Explorer I'm straight there - no problem

Thanks for the advice guys - I have been to java.sun & downloaded the latest java runtime enviroment 5.0 (J2SE) & also checked for Microoft updates, but none of this has helped so far
    - any more thoughts?

…four days on, and what feels like HUNDREDS of hours spent trawling the internet since my last posting, and I am no closer to resolving my “error on page” problem. Seems the only option left is the dreaded drive format/clean install, but is this certain to rid me of this cursed message?? – I'm really struggling with this one and your thoughts and comments would be appreciated – ta!

I don't think this has anything to do with java. I don't install java on my
computer and every website opens up fine on IE for me.
I wonder if the conflict lies in the fact that you have MSN Explorer
running on your computer? Is that your internet provider?
How about trying Firefox to see if that works?

Thanks to ComputerGate & Toke for your input. As suggested I uninstalled MSN Explorer and ran the XP “repair” facility again – but all to no avail. There has however been some progress in that I’ve found out that by clicking on the warning icon displayed in the status bar a message flags up that reads:

“*Problems with this web page…. (general stuff)

    …then specifically:

    Line: 12
    Char: 9
Error: The callee (server[not server application]) is not available and disappeared; all connections are invalid. The call did not execute
    Code: 0
    URL:http//www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/play/index.shtml.

Unfortunately this means nothing to me (?!) and is just one of the many links affected in Microsoft Internet Explorer which generate the same message - ALL of which worked fine using MSN Explorer - B grateful for any ideas?

    Try this,

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

Shdocvw.dll ( this one may do it )
    Msjava.dll
    Actxprxy.dll
    Oleaut32.dll
    Mshtml.dll
    Browseui.dll
    Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

Thanks for your post Steve. I did as you suggested and did a “run” for each of the 8 files you listed. Got the “succeeded” message for each after a couple of seconds and rebooted, but I still get the same error message with the same code and references in IE. p.s. – not official business I know, but I’m sure others wont mind me saying that our thoughts are with you all down there at a bad time in your corner of the world.
