I share a computer with someone that has AOL. I wish to be able to access the internet with my user profile without using AOL but I can't seem to be able to do it. Everytime a try to access Google, Yahoo or any search AOL reopens and takes over. Where can I go to escape AOL for my user profile only.
    System info;
    Windows XP sp2
    Internet explorer 7
    Charter broadband
    Thanks for any help.

Thank you so much. You shot AOL and saved me from pulling my hair out. However now when I click on links in email they do nothing. Is it the evil spirit of AOL?

Not knowing what email client you are using, I can't really say. Usually, links are blocked until you un-block them either somewhere on the letter page or in your email options.
Do links work on regular sites?

I think my problem is Internet Exployer 7. Today I spent 4 hours on a project proposal when I was ready to email it, I went in my yahoo mail as usual clicked on the add attachment button click on browse button and BOOM up came the IE popup blocker so I went in reset my intranet settings restarted IE and the same thing happened. It will not let me change the intranet settings even thou it says they are changed. I'm not really a idiot, I've worked on computers for years, Windows XP has never giving me any major problem that I couldn't fix. I have never had any problem with IE. There is just some little hidden setting somewhere that needs setting or need unsetting. either that or my IE7 is pocessed by something. If ya'll can't help I'm calling in an exorcism team.

I'm don't use IE very much, but you could try either shutting off the pop-up blocker, while you add attachments or add the email site to your allowed list.

I have tried using the ctrl/alt command and it does not work. Today I have not even been able to click on any link in email or even on your last post. Do you have any other ideas?? Thank you for trying. Do you have any other ideas??

I found a possible solution (you can't click the link so I copied and pasted bits)
    This fix is from MS:
You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after you click a link
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    Then click OK
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
    Shdocvw.dll
    Actxprxy.dll
    Oleaut32.dll
    Mshtml.dll
    Browseui.dll
    Shell32.dll
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.
All the .dll's above MUST be typed exactly to work

If the problem is still not resolved, reinstall Internet Explorer. If you are using the version of Internet Explorer that is included with your operating system, repair your operating system.

I think that means, is if you have the same IE (IE 6 or IE 7) that came with your PC, then you can run System File Checker. You need either a recovery partition on your PC or your recovery/re-installation disc or your Windows disc.
First put your disc in, if you don't have a recovery partition.
Goto Start >Run and type cmd.exe A command window will open. Then type sfc /SCANNOW (there is a space between sfc and /SCANNOW) in the command window and press Enter.
This will compare your Windows files against the original and repair or replace any corrupted or missing ones, without a loss of data.
