I Hate Quicktime - How To Keep It Off The Taskbar?

I have Quicktime. I squash it through msconfig but it always comes back and parks itself right back at the bottom on the taskbar.

Is there a way to "ban" it? This drives me nuts. Apple seems to think I cannot live without Quicktime.

    Arghhhhhhh.......

I think you have to go into the QT preferences first and find a "don't run on startup" setting, then use msconfig on it. You could also try using CCleaner on it, but I don't know if that would have the same effect as just using msconfig.

I'm not clear why you would use msconfig for this. You can use CCleaner to uninstall it from Startup, or click on Start > All Programs > Startup (right click & delete QT). Those two options will delete QT from loading while Windows is loading.

But I don't know if that will remove it from your TaskBar. I don't remember how I removed it from mine (it annoyed me too), but you can do the following: R-click Taskbar > Properties > Customize (under Taskbar Tab) > click "Behavior" next to QT and choose "Always Hide".

Now if by accident you meant the QuickLaunch (by the Start button) just right click and choose delete.

Hope this helps! Have a nice day.

One other thing to check...open QT..edit button..preferences..QT preferences..advanced tab..then check or uncheck tray icon box as desired.

Yes - that last method is the ideal solution: Quicktime is still installed, but the irritating icon isn't in the tray any more. Using msconfig or similar for this is useless, as it will re-install itself whenever you invoke it.

Great info, thanks for that. I should probably start a new thread though I'll start here. Is there anyway NOT to install iTunes when installing QT? I just can't stand it removing from add/remove and rebooting. There were no options that I could see.
