    Whaaaaahoooooo!!!!

I've had a headache every day since my accident(s) in 1991 that more often than not evolve in to migraines, I honestly didn't think there would ever be a solution as everything tried thus far hasn't worked.

So, I go in for my physical yesterday. I almost canceled cuz I had such a severe headache and had gone back to bed 2 times..battling severe nausea and trying to hide from the light but figured I'd tough it out and go. Boy am I glad I did. My Dr gave me a pill to take right there in his office before he even finished my physical and a little over an hour later my headache was completely gone! I couldn't (still can't!) believe it! Even better..it stayed gone!:) I am totally dumbfounded...I had completely forgotten what it is like to not have at least a little bit of a headache.

Now I have 2 medications to take for the headaches...one I will take daily to help keep the headaches under control and the other (the one he had me take in his office) I will take if I have a migraine coming on.

I can't believe I woke up this morning and still don't have a headache. *THUD* Life is good!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/star17abby/grinbounce.gif

    That's Great!:) :)

(My youngest daughter gets severe migraines sometimes and I feel useless when that happens but at least most of the time she's free of them. Can't imagine the many years of pain that you have dealt with.)

BTW, How is the computer build coming?

(You can use some of your pain-free time to find me a chair seat belt....PULL!!!)
    :) :) :) :) :)

I'm such a happy camper right now! LOL It's like I have a whole new outlook on life. Dr said some people get relief as quickly as 1/2 hour with the pill he gave me in his office...while it took me a little longer I'm not complaining! May sound corny but I am simply in awe of how that one little pill helped and how different I feel..I feel like 'me' again. My back and neck still hurt..so what! I can think without pain, I can read without pain, I don't have to hide from the light, I don't feel like I'm gonna toss my cookies. WooHoo!

The pill he gave me in his office was relpax and the one I will take daily is topamax. The topamax is introduced gradually. Week 1, 25mg in PM. Week 2, 25 mg AM & PM, Week 3, 25 mg AM & 50 mg PM then Week 4, 50 mg AM & PM. The hope is that I will do well with the week 2 or 3 dose and won't have to hit the week 4 dose...the higher the dose the increased likelihood of side effects (tingling in extremities, etc.) Oh yeah! He gave me enough samples for 3 weeks to boot so I didn't have to dish out any $$ right off the bat.:)

I told him about the klonopin that Dr Green prescribed and that I wouldn't take it cuz of the severe side effects...he laughed and said he didn't blame me as he wouldn't have taken it either. Said it's dangerous and highly addictive. He also confirmed your diagnosis (LOL) of ocular migraines in addition to migraine dizziness. I have referrals to see 2 other Dr'.s.:)

Wow this is great news as I know how much this has affected your every day life, different pills than I was reading on but hey they sound better. Nice Dr, even gave you a supply bonus!!!

Hahahha I must ask my boss for a payrise, as I must have been listening in the training sessions ( funny the things I pick up ) :)

just need the new PC sorted now? and you'll be on a roll... 2006 has started well!

Thanks LMBEST:) It's nothing short of a miracle IMO. I would get so depressed over it and there are (were) days when I'd think I can't live through another one it hurts so bad. Once I move on to the migraine it takes me a few days to recover and get back to just a regular headache and this would happen 2 or 3 times a month, sometimes more.:( I feel like I've been given a second chance as weird as that sounds.

Does your daughter have any meds she takes to get relief?

Computer build hasn't begun yet. Had some difficulty finding a couple things but with any luck, I'll be picking them up on Thursday and will attack it Friday while Chris is at work so I don't have any distractions. And!, if I have a problem I don't have to stress over kicking him off his puter so I can log in here and send out a cry for help! LOL

Here's a nice little chair for ya...should be a piece of cake to add the seat belt! LMAO

Yeah, the 3 week supply is an awesome bonus. I get nervous when the Dr starts talking prescriptions..they are so darned expensive. I needed some antibiotics too and he gave me samples for that so no script to buy there either. It was a good day at the Dr.'s! lol

I think the raise is appropriate under the circumstances! :) I just wish I was one of those that didn't get the headache after all those pretty lights that make me go blind for a while...but! At least now once I start to have the aura I have the relpax to take and I shouldn't get the migraine at all!

@ D3 & Maggie...Thanks!!:)...It's nothing but amazing. Added to that..I seem to have this burst of energy...I know it's cuz I feel better.:) I have a little bit of a headache right now but I think it's from eye strain and it's not debilitating so that's good.:) One of the referrals my Dr gave me was to an ophthalmologist so I can get properly prescribed glasses. I won't go to another optometrist after the fiasco last year...3 pairs of glasses and an exorbitant amount of money and they still couldn't get the script right.

Yeah, she's got some meds. Just need to get the hard headed little ....whatever.... to recognize the triggers to take it in time for it to work. She's 18 and bullet-proof like all teenagers.

Sounds like you'll be back in operation soon which is also great.:)

Boy that chair is the cat's a**. With wheels like that I won't need a seat belt to keep it under my butt when I .. no I won't say it.

AbbySue ... some med companies will sell direct and reduce the cost if you write to them and explain circumstances. Unfortunately they all don't (especially for experimental drugs) but it's worth a try.

Woo!-Hoo! Hey, that IS indeed great news, Abby!:)

Glad the Relpax and the Topamax are doing the trick. It must be a real pleasure to, like ya said, actually be able to think, read, and concentrate in general, without major discomfort, pain and flashing lights/colours, etc.

Yeah, although I don't get the migraines every day, when I do, they can last from the best part of a day, if I'm lucky, to days, or even weeks, which aint any fun. But having migraines every day for the past fourteen years like you did would definitely be no picnic! :(

Anyway, that's outstanding news about the meds. Now if you can get some suitable spectacles, then life may become a lot more bearable for you! :)

People take so many things for granted, don't they? Like being able to move and think without it being a painful experience, or to see with clarity. Personally, I would just like to be able to live long enough to see grandchildren, when the time comes. The way things have shaped up medically, I'm not counting on it, though. My eyesight is the biggest problem, a.t.m. I'm trying to avoid the surgery option like the plague! Time will tell, as always, but it doesn't make it any easier, I'll admit.

I think becoming headache free, has come about just in time for you start on the more metaphorical ‘headaches’ of building you r new ‘puter, LoL!

Nothing is worse than living with daily pain. (I should know, I have a 2 sisters)

The relief, if you can find it, is like being born again. It changes your whole outlook on life and what you consider precious.

Unfortunately, the trick is to find a decent doctor. Most are useless, and are only good for a Sick Certificate for work or antibiotics for flu.

My understanding of Migraines are that you need to take the tablet before you experience the Migraine.

I've yet to hear of a drug (apart from powerful opiates which are near impossible to get and have severe side effects) that work once the Migraine has started.

Glad to hear you are happier and healthier. ;)

Congratulations Abby! Best news I've heard so far this year!

DO see that opthalmologist. Optometrists and opticians are mechanics. Opthalmologist is a medical doctor. There are some good mechanics out there, but for some things a well trained doctor is required.

Sometimes a lengthy back/shoulder rub has helped a bit, but not too frequently. Since the problem is chronic, it's gonna happen when it wants to happen.

Not anymore.:) There are other medications like the relpax my Dr gave me that will work (and did for me) even after the full blown migraine has hit. It's a miracle I tell ya! LOL

Thank you all for your support, well wishes, WooHoo's and all that! LOL I'm back in headache mode but that's to be expected until the topamax level gets to where it needs to be for me and as it's introduced gradually it's going to take a few weeks. I can deal with that! I've had a taste of what it's like to not have a headache and it's drastically changed how I feel overall. I'm more optimistic and even excited about what it will be like a few weeks from now.:)

I'll still have to deal with the daily back and neck pain and bouts of getting totally laid up from it but to not have a headache, be stumbling around from the dizziness or sitting there waiting for my vision to return will be a blessing. Even when I have a back flare up I'll still be able to DO something, unlike before.

@ FlyNdragon...thanks for the suggestion. Talked to my daughter about that also (she's a pharmacy tech in NY) and she said they might send my coupons. Good thing...the topamax (if I stay at the 25 mg bid dose and don't need the 50 bid dose) is $119.45 for a 30 day supply and the relpax is $114.49 for 6 pills.:eek::eek:

@ Wobbles..no, not yet. Working on it though so in the mean time, I have 2 pair of Walgreen specials I switch back and forth with depending on what I'm doing:D

    @ gal...*cough* pull *gasp* no comment...LMAO
