Kick me in the head, lock me away, I must be crazy. Ok I don't have a monkey, but there are apparently lots of people who do.
This woman had this monkey for years, it wore diapers, it was part of her family. Somewhere along the line someone forgot to tell her that "MONKEYS ARE NOT PETS", they are wild, yes WILD animals, they are not domesticated, not meant to be domesticated, not meant to be puppies, not meant to were diapers, not meant to be in captivity at all, they are wild animals. I hear these stories all the time where animals attack people. They didn't attack they were being animals. Tigers maul their trainer, Hmmm maybe they shouldn't be trained.
Elephant stomps someone at at show, Hmmm why are they in a show. Python eats a dog in the house, hmmm why is the python in the house, it's not a pet thats supposed to be in the house. I can go on and on. When are we ,yes we, you know humans, going to get it through our heads that wild animals that are use to being in the wild and have the capability of killing us ARE NOT HOUSE PETS...HELLO. So is she supprised that this animal finally went off and reverted back to being a wild animal and almost killed someone...
Sorry for todays rant but I had to get it off my chest..:confused:confused:confused:confused:confused:confused

I agree 100%. In the northern USA it's people who keep and breed wolves as pets. Big surprise when it mauls or bites someone. Like buggabear said, it's a WILD animal. Its instincts take over and it attacks. Buy a parakeet. ;)

*sigh* There was the same reaction when the Tiger mauled Siegfreid. You want the truth? Even dogs can snap and revert despite years of training and breeding. Cats go feral within one generation of release, so...

As for the monkey, who can say. It might have been something as simple as a fragrance, or an action it percieved as threatening. As for those wolves? Those are expected to be dangerous, because they are wolves. Chimps are too similar for most people to remember. They don't think to differentiate between human and chimp and forget the rules.

I think if they play the 911 tape for the Jury the case will be thrown out.

I don't know... people raise children and Husbands and think they can tame them and housebreak them and all that good stuff... why not a chimpanze?

I think the part about this whole story that got me is the excessive force used to subdue the chimp. I mean first she stabbed him, then the police SHOT him... he must have been so terrified and not known how to react. Who the hell has a wild animal in their home and does not keep a loaded tranq gun handy? I mean SERIOUSLY this whole thing could have been averted before she even had to call the friend it attacked if she'd had a freaking tranq gun.

Even better, if she had left the chimp in it's natural environment, it would probably still be alive and living like a chimp is suppose to live. They are not meant to be in a house or a zoo (that's another post)

I have said for ever, "never trust animals or children" they're both too unpredictable to trust 100%

Though most of you may have already heard the story...
I think this may be the example buggabear is talking about.

An out-of-control, 200-pound pet chimpanzee that had recently been given Xanax apparently went berserk and mauled a woman in Connecticut, leaving her in critical condition.

The owner of the former TV star chimp Travis stabbed him multiple times after the Monday attack, but to no avail. Police were called to the scene and say they had no choice but to shoot and kill the pet-gone-wild.

The bizarre scene unfolded in Stamford, when Travis suddenly attacked, tore up the face and chewed off the hands of 55-year-old Charla Nash, who was visiting his owner Sandra Herold Monday night.

Nash was taken to the hospital with severe wounds and remained in critical condition Tuesday.

He bit both of her hands off and the cop told me he just kept eating her. It's terrible," Lynne Mecca, a friend of the victim, told CBS News.

The animal had recently been given Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug that is used for pets as well as humans, because it had become agitated.

Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said Herold gave Travis the drug in some tea. The medication can initially cause an increase in anxiety in animals until they adjust to it.

Authorities say there was no known provocation for the attack.

The victim suffered "a tremendous loss of blood" from serious injuries, according to Conklin.

Nash was in critical condition Tuesday after suffering what Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy called "life-changing, if not life-threatening," injuries to her face and hands.

Her sister-in-law, Kate Nash, said Tuesday morning that Nash underwent surgery Monday night and came out of it "OK."

Ah, of course, we proscribe drugs that drive civilized intelligent people to worsened heights, then wonder what went wrong.
