i have a problem with my connection

right here goes, ive had a major problem with my internet connection in the past couple of days but ive kinda sorted it out.The problem I have now is with my P2P Program, i cannot connect even though im still connecting to the internet and MSN messenger and Yahoo mesenger.Bare in mind that ive had no problems before with my current P2P sotware.used Lavasoft's Ad-aware 6 to find any un wanted files etc, ect and it has found quite a few I have deleted them.Could any one recomend some thing that would possibly sort this tiny little problem out

win XP home
2.7 ghz Celeron
256 DDr ram
700 cable

Uninstall P2P and reinstall?

system restore, restore to previous?
If pc has virus /bugs/trogens may be necessary to turn off system restore to clean system! then you can turn back on.

ive have unistalled my P2P software and reinstalled 9over and over again, but to no avail it's still not working properly. I have used system restore too but no luck.
