OK, first I hope this is in the right forum. Basically my problem is I need to get an unregistered verison of XP off of my daughters computer. The code had already been used on another computer and the OS was not removed off of her computer before the 30 days were up. Now, when the computer is booted up, the "register now" alert comes up, and if we choose the do it later option, it logs off, and basically all that can be done is turning the computer off. I am not able to get to desktop, I have tried to start in safe mode but I cant seem too ( I tried tapping F8 and F2, but it still bypasses the safe mode selection page and boots XP). I really just need to try and get back to the OS that was on before XP, but I have no idea how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated. She really wants to use it.

Put the xp disk in and select new install ....when it asks to format ..do a full format but stop the install after the format is done ...then install another os..

There are options on some motherboards that allow you to choose which OS to load from, automatically you get this option 5 or so times then it just loads the one you choose automatically,to access boot options on my MSI motherboard I press F11 at startup you may want to try this,it may vary on other boards.

I'd already typed this Tim so I'v posted it:)
    Similar to Tims suggestion

If you have the xp disk handy insert it and select first boot device as the cdrom, this will bring you into xp setup view the partitions, there should be two delete the new one you installed, reset your bios back to harddrive as first boot device your original OS should load.

You will lose any data you have saved on this partition though:)

Not a problem Rikky ....as I was only thinking that the install was overtop a previous os and not that he may have a second os on a different partition ...so the post was very appropriate.:)

Thanks for the replies! First I tried the F11...no go.

As for inserting the disc, I had the computer on, inserted the disc, turned it off and back on. The only thing that came up was "Press any key to boot from CD"...., I tried it pressing a key, and not pressing a key. Both times, took me to the regular log-in screen.

I inserted the disc while the computer was on and it read it for a moment, and then nothing.

So I have seen no other "options" screens to try and do anything different.
    What am I doing wrong?
